I know it's been said before - call to check!

Marite, I had forgotten your S is graduating early; I can see the advisement of sending additional grades (providing they're correct--whew!)

Marite--I always checked my D's transcript at the beginning of each semester. (I volunteer at her school, so I could ask one of the Counseling staff to pull it up on the computer screen for a quick eye-ball check.) Problems are just so much easier to fix while the iron is hot and the teacher remembers.

But every applicant should order an unofficial transcript to check it for errors before having an official one sent out. Mistakes happen!

Coureur:

LOL. Didn't you parse the difference between causation and correlation in some earlier post? :) But hey, grab credit for good things whenever you can. Who said that success has a thousand mothers but failure is an orphan?

At the beginning of senior year each student is given a copy of his transcript with the advice to not lose it.
We ended up a few weeks ago with an extra sealed transcript that we did not need at the time so I opened it. D couldn't believe I had opened it but after reading CC I wanted to see what they send. The profile was fair but listed across the top profile for year 2003. I guess they haven't updated it. It did not say much beyond how many students go on to a 4 year college and the racial breakdown.
The transcript to our surprise listed absences for most of the semesters. The copy that they give the students does not. For a few of the semesters it looks like she missed quite a number of days since they included excused absences for her school sports team away games. But the transcript does not list that they participated on any athletic teams so it just looks like she has a large number of absences.
It also included her most recent quarter grades.

Update:

S got the teacher's grade correction. GC said he would try to send out the amended transcript today. S has emailed admission office to let adcom know the correct grade and to alert them that a new transcript is on the way. GC says that the transcript did include first quarter graders, so the GPA will need to be recalculated.

I think all's well that ends well. Thanks to all again!

And my S went to Harvard and it's ranking fell from Number One to Number Two behind Princeton that year in the US NEWS and WORLD!!!! Go figure!

Marite
It could work to his advantage; they will see how enthusiastic he is and willing to go the extra mile!

Thanks for the thread, my son will have a grade correction for 1st quarter - we will get that sent out instead of waiting for 1st semester grades (assuming grades want on the trascript).

Truer words were never spoken. Four envelopes were sent to U of Rochester including grades and letters of recommendation which they signed for yet they claim they haven't received anything.

THEY SIGNED FOR THEM and we have the receipts from the U.S. Postal Service.

Go figure

Jake - if they don't have any of the four, could it be that they are just very behind in opening mail and logging stuff in? It does seem bizarre to think they could lose all four, unless they all arrived the same day and a bag of mail went astray. See if you can resend things, or fax things; ask if you should do so right away or wait until mail is logged in. If it isn't ED/EA, you do have time....

Wish, you're correct in that they're backlogged at Rochester. But the four envelopes went under separate cover a long time ago and we feel that at least one of them should've been received by now. I'm just glad that we called and still have time to do it all over again if necessary.

Thanks

Hi Jake - It is starting to be a wonder to me that anyone ever gets in at all, given all these horror stories! I found myself wishing at one point that I could hand delliver things, but then again, if they "lose" them once delivered, what good is that anyway? S's GC who has been at this 30 years says that things do tend to get found. Still, who needs one more stressor at such a stressful time? I hope everything turns up soon.

Jake:

Sometimes, materials end up in different folders, so it pays to ask that the staff check. Phone and email with the date when the staff signed the receipts. I like to have a paper trail of such things.

Good luck!
