Who else is applying to Barnard next year?

I might be. I’m still not sure.

:) yayy (10 char)

Yes I will be!

(: (ten char)

I might be, but that’s probably not gonna happen.

My daughter will be applying.

I plan on applying! possiblyyyyyyy early decision. Hopefully I will attend the pre-college program this summer.

Me too! Barnard is my top choice, my parents met at Columbia, so I’m hoping to continue the family tradition!

That’s awesome! I actually fell in love with Columbia first, but Barnard slowly grew on me to the point that I now like it a lot more. I just think I’m more of a liberal arts school person. I have no connections to it or anything(in fact most people at my school/ in my community haven’t heard of it. I’m from the south) I just stumbled across Columbia on the internet one day and found out about Barnard that way.

I plan on applying! I am attending the one week liberal arts intensive at Barnard this summer and I am so excited!

barnard is my top choice! I dearly hope I have the stats to get in!
where are you all from? nobody in california has heard of barnard ;\ but I guess that means less competition over here since everyone is competing for spots in uc berk / ucla / usc / stanford!

After doing lots of research, I really do love Barnard. I think I’m going to apply but I’ll check with my college counselor before I make any rash decisions haha.

Yes! Not my top choice, but among the top ones.

I plan on applying! :)

hello everyone! barnard is most definitely my number one choice! however, i’m going to have to work my ass off to get there. nyu’s my second choice.

ahh i’m so nervous for next year. i’m sure we’ll be hearing more from each other soon, probably the week before decisions come out next year!

2015er here, but wanted to wish everyone the best of luck! I was recently admitted, and if anyone has any questions, feel free to ask! I remember being in the same shoes and wanting Barnard SO badly.

@Aspheric, congrats on getting in!

If you could rank the following aspects in order from greatest to least importance in the admission process, what would the order be? (GPA, standardized tests, character, EC’s, essay, rigor of courseload, etc). Thanks!

Let me jump in here and say that everything is important when it comes to applying to college, purplepoppy. As none of us are the actual admissions officers who will be looking at the papers, none of us have the right to assume which is more important to them. In general, Barnard admission officers say to prospective that they look at your application holistically. They, like any other college and employer, would most likely want to see someone who challenges themselves, who achieves, who is a leader, who has an insatiable curiosity, and who is willing to improve themselves no matter how far they’ve already climbed. Your transcript, common app, extracurriculars, and supplements are only the medium through which you show who you are.

This is my own personal opinion, so please, take it with a grain of salt. I believe that trying to find a secret formula to winning college acceptances is the wrong way to go. You can tailor your application to Barnard, but then where would the essence of you be? It would be covered by what you think Barnard (or whatever college you are applying to) wants to see. You will lose the most important element. Who you are.

My advice for your next two school years is this. Do what you love. Do it with a passion. Try something new. Take a risk. Become someone who doesn’t just get good grades, but someone who has acquired the skills and enthusiasm of a lifetime learner. And most importantly, take these two years to understand yourself. For me, the college application process was invaluable because in discovering which colleges I wanted to go to, I ended up better understanding what I valued in my life.

In all likelihood, purplepoppy, you may change your mind about Barnard in two years. Or you will love it all the more. I used to only ever look at UCs and Stanford, but when it came down to it, I only applied to LACs. Don’t freak out now. You have plenty of time and plenty more to experience other than trying to untangle the minds of our enigmatic admission readers.

Woop, long post. Sorry about that.

I’m applying next year, and it is definitely my first choice. I am also doing the Young Women’s Leadership Institute this summer; is anyone else attending that??
