well, my friend was paid 500 dollars to take someone else's SATs for them

CHEATING IS SO EASY,,, pm me for more informations.. i don't do it because of my morality.(lol) It's really not that difficult.

There was an Asian guy who ran an illegitimate SAT business a few years ago, back in 1994 or so. He'd take the SATs for his clients and get money in return. He was one of the candidates for valedictorian at his high school as well. I think he got accepted to Princeton ED. Unfortunately, he ended up murdering a student for unrelated reasons. Admission was rescinded, of course. He is currently serving a lifetime sentence in jail.

Cheated and only got 1980? Pfft.

you guys, you do know college adcoms & etc read this site too...

ray- lol. so true.

3 and 4 years ago heard about two cheating instances in my school....both kids had dictionaries in their calculators and i'm assuming they went back and changed their answers...i'm pretty sure this is true

one is at upenn and the other at NYU

The kid may not have cheated at all, and just wants to sound "cool"

If he did cheat, and you have some details, I would tell, at least send something to the college board with some of the story, and if you don't have abosulute proof, it won't do any good to say this horrible persons name:

"This cheating happened, and this is how a kid did it..I am not reporting his name because I have no absolute proof, but if he got away with it, others may as well as he is sharing how he did it, and you SAT people should be aware of this way of cheating and its not fair to those of us that are honest and try our best"

this way, you are letting the powers that be know what MIGHT have happened, they have a heads up for the future

It may not be fair that this twit got away with cheating, but unless you have proof, well...

And if he bragged about cheating, why not send a note to his counselor, saying just that...Bob told people he cheated on the SAT by having it coded on his socks, or whatever, and maybe he did, maybe he didn't but the school should know, so no one else tries to do what Bob claimed he did....

I'm not understanding your story, his score went up by 800-900 points so he cheated?

yeah...lots of people make dramatic improvements.

could just mean he studied.

what a concept...

did not the OP said the kid was bragging about cheating? So he either cheated like he said, or is trying to look cool by saying, hey, look I cheated...

wow. i didnt even know you could put a dictionary on a ti-89.

"yeah...lots of people make dramatic improvements."
They are actually quite rare. So rare in fact, that if your score jumped 500 points from one sitting to the next on the old SAT, the College Board would investigate for an instance of cheating. The average improvement is below 50 points (~15-30 I believe). A huge jump between SAT scores (although not necessarily PSAT->SAT) is suspect.

Cheating is definitely not a victimless crime. It's kind of like economic protectionism (tarriffs etc.) - you can easily see those helped, but not those hurt. And justice is hardly reliable - cheating is fairly easy to do without getting caught.

There are calculator dictionaries. There is calculator swapping during breaks. There is calling your friend in NY when you are in L.A, looking over shoulders, et cetera. If you're bright enough, you can scheme endlessly, but have little need for it.

It was actually around 300 point difference on the old SAT.

You should have reported testing irregularities to the proctor or CB immediately after the exam. Now, it will just look like spite and/or jealousy.

Yeah it doesn't really make sense to turn the person in now. It also depends on the type of cheating that was done. If it was filling in a buttle right after time was called I don't think it really matters. If it involved getting all of the answers from the math genius during the break and than going back and changing all of the answers that would be really bad and worth turning in.

I think you should bust him, personally.

I think you should sleep, protege. ;)

The kid cheated because he sat next to someone he knew was going to get an 800 in math. He only got a 560 in verbal though.

Still. its the concept. I know a dozen kids on this school's waiting list who deserve a spot better, and if i want to turn him in, im going to. All you people without backbones who are telling me not to, its my decision, not yours.

I asked HOW, and I still havent gotten an answer

If u didnt want advice u should have just ratted on him and saved everybody here the trouble of responding to your pouting. Get a grip.

are u asking how can u cheat on the SAT?
if you are then u should know that the ONLY way someone can cheat (heard from 3 ppl who cheated in different methods) is to go to a testing center which is fairly 'relaxed' with the rules. i wont mention what youd do there but the possibilities are endless. all just for reference of course im sure you have all taken ur sats and nothing u can do about ur score now. btw i didnt cheat so dont get the wrong idea

How can I rat him out?
