I know Subject Tests are not required with the ACT, but how important are they?

Hello!

I will only be submitting my ACT score. How important are subject tests for admission for a student who submitted their ACT score?

When I went to the campus visit and info. Session over the summer they said that they recommend submitting Subject test scores that match well with your intended major. I sent mine in and I think that the bottom line is that if they are good enough, they cant hurt you.

@manmusthaveacode Thanks! I am a bit worried as I have not taken them yet. Should I take them?

I would take them only if you prep and i would only submit them only if the scores in whichever subject are above 720 (750 for math because so many scores are extremely high)

Worry more about doing well on them, and then worry about sending them in once you have gotten great scores.

DS never took the subject tests and was admitted to Columbia EA.

In his case, they were not needed. He submitted his ACT and SATs.

@momfromme What were his scores, if you don’t mind me asking?

Both of my DDs go to Columbia and neither submitted subject tests. They both just sent the ACT, one was admitted ED, the other regular decision but received a likely letter.

@jomama2g How high were their scores?
