I know teachers have feelings...

I asked Teacher X, in whose English class I did really well, to write my rec at the end of last year. Thing is, this year I've got an academic class for the first time with Teacher Y who knows me well from my extracurricular involvement, and who could write me an amazing rec, if he was willing to do it. Teacher Y is a very in-demand teacher for rec-writing. Would it be offensive or callous for me to ask Teacher X, a very sweet person, whether or not she's written my rec yet, and if not, ask Teacher Y if he would consider writing my rec, and if he says yes, telling Teacher X that I actually don't want her to write it?... If X has already written my rec, I'll leave it at that, yes?

Any advice appreciated.

If she hasn't written the recc, I'm sure that Teacher X wouldn't mind not having to write your recc, since it would be extra work for her.

If she has written it, you still could ask Teacher Y to write a recc. and you could send colleges Teacher Y's rec. IYou should give thank-you notes to both teachers. t's your college app, and you need to get the best rec you can.
