I need help finding some colleges that I think are a good fit. I don't want to reach too high and not be able to get into the schools I apply to but I also don't want to aim too low and not find my classes challenging because that is important to me. I'm not sure what I want to major in yet but I am considering communications or possibly teaching. Here are my stats:

I'm currently senior girl at a MA public high school.
SATs : 1820 (CR 620, M 590, W 610)
Weighted GPA: 3.6
Mostly honors classes through out HS and one AP this year
National Honors Society and Honor Roll
Community Service hours
Varsity cross country and track all four years
Cross country captain my senior year
Clubs
I'm also hoping to stay in New England (Preferably MA or RI)

Can anyone give me a few suggestions for schools they think may be a good fit or even a little bit of a reach??

What is your intended major?

Brandeis University for a start.

Brandeis is horrible if you aren’t Jewish. Trust me.

Take a look at Bentley, BC, BU, Northeastern, Emerson, URI, UMass Amherst, Holy Cross, Trinity, UConn (only if you get in-state reciprocity, otherwise not worth it)

Does money matter? Part of country preferred?

Thanks so much for answering guys I really appreciate it!

House of London - I am thinking communications/media studies but I’m not entirely sure yet I may go into journalism or english but you get the idea.

Redroses - yes, money matters so I am hoping to get decent amount of money from the school. And I would prefer MA or RI but I’ll say New England to broaden it a bit.

Are you looking for need based aid or merit aid. Have you figured out your family’s EFC and what they can pay per year?

For good aid you need either schools that meet 100% of need if you qualify for need based aid, or schools that give generous merit aid if you don’t. This is tough because schools that meet need are in general top schools requiring high stats. For good merit aid you must have very high stats for the school.

A college list has to start with a full understanding of finances or you can waste a lot of time applying to schools your family can’t afford.

I don’t think my family could afford more than 25k so I know that limits me. My sister currently attends a private school that costs about 40k but with her stats (which are similar to mine) she only pays about 22k.

Goldfish5, my D is a freshman at Wheaton (the one in Norton, MA) and was admitted with similar stats to yours-she received a $10,000/yr merit scholarship plus other financial aid. So far she is enjoying it there very much. She is planning to become an elementary school teacher, and Wheaton seems to have a good education dept. with ties to the local schools for internships and student teaching. It is a beautiful little campus, and although Norton is small there is easy access to Providence (20 minutes away) and Boston (45 minutes away)- a Wheaton shuttle takes students to the train station for free.

I’m actually very familiar with Wheaton and I’m not sure how I feel about it but thank you for the info I appreciate it!
