plz... no one say the ipod... try the creative labs zen

wheres the best place to buy it from?

bump............!

i'd use newegg.com, but if you want to go to a store, go to bestbuy*

I don't know which is the best, but I can tell you which one isn't the best. The Rio Sport (the one I have). Only costs $99, but with the internal 128mb it can only hold about 28 songs at max.

I guess it does have some plusses though - it's durable. I drop it and throw it around all the time and it's still fine. And it's comparatively pretty cheap.

i have an iriver iHP -120, they discontinued that model but irivers generally get uber high reviews on cnet and are really easy to use. my mp3 player holds 20gb and i got it for about $340

my lyra holds 20gb and i got it for about 170... but it's discontinued

iPod.

I hate the zen with a passion. Not baseless either... let me copy and paste my post from another board...

Please listen to me. Don't buy creative. I've owned 2 Creative players, and the iPod. The iPod is millions of times better in nearly every aspect.

My first creative player, the Jukebox 3, started falling apart after 6 months. The headphone jack literally fell into the player. I sent it off, and it was basically a day over warranty, which sucked. They wanted 300 dollars to fix it. So I moved on to....

Creative Zen. This was a bit better than the jukebox 3, but it didn't have all the cool EAX settings that changed reverb, playback speed, and all that jazz. First, this dents easily. Mine looks like it has been dropped from 20 feet onto a curb... and it most certainly has never had that experience... It's just from normal wear and tear in my backpack. The click wheel stopped working, and all the screws came out, so the leather case I had it in kept it together.

I was sick of all that crap, so I got an iPod. U2 edition because I had the money, and liked the colors. It's so great. It's so ergonomic. Every last detail is done superbly. From the fading of the backlight, to the scroll wheel, it's perfect.

Not to mention the zen is ugly as sin.

If you're an audiophile like I am, headphones are also essential in your purchase. Stock headphones suck. Throw them away.

Also from my other post...

Also you'll want new headphones. I despise earbuds and the like. I prefer very large DJ headphones. I've gone through these like doughnuts..

Aiwa DJ phones - Not sure of the model, but they were great. Tons of bass, and all around loud. Their demise was the ultra thin cable that one day just stopped working.

Sony style clip ons: These things look cool... They sound good, but offer no isolation. Everyone will hear everything you listen to. Plus the bass channel just stopped working on the left one.

Then I moved on to two pairs of sony "studio" headphones... One pair was black, and around 20 dollars, and another was silver and 50. The silver had neodyium speakers. Not too shabby... but not superb either.

My current headphones are great. Sennheiser HD212pros. TONS of bass. Ultra comfortable... Decent looking. Basically a cheap version of the Bose triport, except they lack the ultra-comfort of those, but replace it with extra bass. Not a bad trade off.

In conclusion, the iPod is simply the best out there. It will be a long term investment... It provides hours of great music listening... and it has so many great feautures... I'm still randomly discovering its quirks.

Get a PSP, not really though for an mp3 player
Go for ipod, because its probably your best bet but take a look at some of the sony ones. they are about 50$ more but you get twice the battery life and their smaller.

visarale it's interesting you chose to ignore the op's disclaimer NOT to post the ipod...

I would say it's more arrogant than interesting... I really believe it is the best, whether or not someone has a personal disliking of it or not.

Ipod really is the best - and, besides, every third kid walking around campus has one.

The best overall AND trendy to boot ;)

For computer use, iTunes is one of the best I've tried so far.

wellll.....i said please not to say the ipod...bcuz i already know it rocks and i dont like the fact that EVERYONE has it...but my budget is 240...and the ipod is llike 300....:

help...i seriously dont want to buy the wrong thing..

GO for a creative labs Nomad. That's what my sister has, and it's great. you can probably get a 40 gig one for 240..

here you go

I think that eveyone has an iPod because it's the most reliable player. That's why I got mine . . . You can get the mini for around $199.

But, since you asked about other players . . . I work at a music store and we also carry mp3 players. Let me tell you, people return EVERYTHING. ALL THE TIME. FOR NO REASON. But, we've never had a return on a Creative player. That must mean somthing . . .

Good Luck,
Amy

fendergirl has a good suggestion, creative labs make really good products, their zen line is equivalent to the ipod... for 20/30 gigs if you really need to get the nomad for 40 gigs

Lord no, did no one read about my bad experiences with Creative? I mean maybe I just got sucky players, but two different players just falling apart seems a little less than random. I would be wary of going the creative path...

iPod mini is nice if your collection isn't too big, and it's in your price range.
