I know there's a common app thread but...

I have my own question that I wanna get answered...here.

So let's say I'm applying to a school early action via common app. On Oct. 31st, I submit the completed application to the school I'm applying to early. I'm done.

Now it's uh...Nov. 2. I'm done with my early school and I need to start working on my regular decision schools that also use the common app.

Can I change my essay responses or data even though I already submitted the common app beforehand for my early action school? Or does the common app lock all my responses from that point on and I'm stuck with what I wrote in October, but I might wanna change something when December rolls around?

Thanks.

Once you send your first application, the entire app is locked. I have had this confirmed.

I think it is a wrong headed decision, but what do I know? Your options are to create a new account... you might also want to complain to CA.

OTOH, the schools know this about the common app. They know they are not getting a personalized essay. Everyone is in the same boat. If they want something personalized, then they will have a supplement.

I can make a separate CA account for all my regular decision schools?

That's cool.

wait so you can make another account? that's a good idea

r u sure that u can do that

I dont know why you cannot. I am sure it is not encouraged, but when I created an account for myself (so I could roam around and see what my son would be up against) I do not remember seeing anything you could not.

I am guessing it will be common, and that this new policy of not allowing changes will not last long. It doesnt even make sense. For people who apply early, things could change between the applications.

I tried because I guess they have a limit on the amount the colleges you can apply to and it didn't work. So I guess I have to send the rest of the CA to the other colleges by mail. Why do they limit you?

I am guessing that they are reacting to the criticism that the CA has helped drive the rise in number of schools kids are applying? This is a valid concern.

Out of curiosity - how many apps did it let you send? and what did it say when you tried to create a new account? and more important, how on earth did you manage to reach that limit before Sept?? :-)

20 is the limit and the message is "You have reached the maximum number of schools that can be added to your My Colleges list." It said that there was an account with my name and info - so you can't create another account. Well I've been on CC since 8th grade so I was prepared but I have to admit I sent maybe 8 that are just going to be duplicated because Im doing Questbridge. So yea its a pain but I have about 4 more I'm going to apply to. I think maybe 24 in all.

I'm fine because three of my schools don't accept the common app :)

Does anyone know why some of the supplements aren't up on CA but are at the actual school sites?

bumping to find out if u can really make another account and do what the ppl above said

nvm i just tried, and it wont let me make another account

so paper form way now??

Yes thats what i'm doing

We should all complain to CA about it, it really doesn't make sense. It gives EA students a distinct disadvantage. I dont like the idea of not being able to improve my essay in 2 months before RD.

So what are the other options then?

New accounts
Send paper applications to RD schools?

Ofcourse, it seems both ways are pretty discouraged... :-/

no it wont let u do a new account..i tried it says that there is another user with the same name, birthdate and zip code, if u take one out the bday will still have to be used so it wont let u make a new one

That sucks the testicles. I guess we'll have to be super sure that our final essays are...like perfect if we apply early.

I too have reached the 20 application limit on the commonapp. Crap, If I had known there was a limit I wouldn’t have applied to crap schools like Emmanuel College and Brandeis. I mean they’re not crap but they’re not my top choices and so now I can’t apply to Cornell. Oh well, I guess I still have Harvard, Yale, Vanderbilt, Princeton, Amherst College, Boston College, Northeastern, and Boston University to look forward to.

wow, I could not think how this showed up on my subscriptions, then i realized it was 3+years old.

Not only did a very old thread get revived, the recent post is basically off topic.

Sorry for asking this on such an old thread, but since it’s been bumped anyway, is the Common App still locked after you submit it to a college?
