I know there's no engineering...anything applied science-ish?

I really like the idea of UChicago--intellectual atmosphere, strong math program with hum as well, etc. Right now I'm thinking of a math major, though that may change (either way, it'll probably be something in the sciences, along with some theater and writing).

For a while UChicago has been almost on my list, but its lack of an engineering program has been a turn-off. The thing is, I'm more interested in the theoretical engineering/applied science end of things, not so much being pre-professional, getting a BSE and working in industry as a practicing engineer. I know Chicago prides itself on the "pure" side of things, but are there people doing research in, say, not-entirely-theoretical CS (maybe even robotics-ish things?), or applied math (not so much numerical analysis-ish areas as mathematical modeling, fluid dynamics, computational neuroscience etc)?

Thanks for the help.

See if what you find tickles you. I think it will.

Hm, looks interesting--thanks!

One more question--I see there's a bit of BME-ish research going on at the medical school, specifically in robotic surgery. Is it possible for undergrads to get involved in research at the medical school?
