I know they don't compare applicants necessarily,

but I see posts here of students who think they are automatic rejects but have taken like 10+ APs. I worry because these are the only APs offered in my school:

AP English
AP US History
AP Calc BC and AB (one or the other)
AP Physics
AP Chemistry

Also you can basically only take APs your senior year, unless you take summer school to get ahead, in which you could probably at most take one as a junior (that's what I did, took US History in summer school to take AP US History my Junior year).

I'm only taking/will have taken history, english and calc bc, and my main concern is looking weak against the majority of applicants. There's only been one person from my school to go to Stanford over the entire time I've been in high school.

I worry I don't stand a chance. I have 710R/720M/710W, giving me the highest combined SAT score of anyone in my class, as far as it's known (2140).

I'd really love an opinion!

I dont know really, my school doesnt even offer AP's! I guess they will evaluate it in context!

they look at you in context. if that's what you've been offered, they like to see that you've been taking advantage of that. don't worry about other kids who have a slew of AP's. :)

You might actually be at an advantage coming from a school that isn't so hot in terms of APs, SATs, etc. You have to stand out among your peers (i.e. your classmates)-- and you're definitely doing that.

My school only offers one AP (US History), and I wasn't allowed to take it because I had special circumstances my junior year. So I'm roughly in the same boat as you. But we're both fine as long as your school profile that your counselor sent in has some info on this. Usually they note what kind of classes the school offers, and if yours does, then the adcom will know that you didn't take 15 APs because you weren't able to. They are looking for how you compare with other applicants in the context of how hard you have worked with the opportunities given to you.

I wouldn't worry about it at all. In fact, if you've shown any initiative to take harder classes than most people at your school are allowed to take, then you will be looked upon favorably.

Good luck! :)

You seem to be extremely motivated. Stanford will see that you have used your resources to the best of your ability. They won't hold it against you.

Thank you all for your thoughts. I definitely feel better about everything now!
