I know this has been done millions of times, but what are my chances?

Sorry for posting this again but I'd like to know if I could get into UT Austin. I visited the campus and have fallen in love with it. It is without a doubt my top choice. Some basic stats first. (Will be senior in high school come fall term)

I'm not ranked as high as I'd like I'm 102/818 so top 12% or so

SAT I: M: 700
R: 750
W: 700

I will take subject tests in the fall

I am social officer in NHS at my school.
Vice President of Young Democrats
Publicist of Muslim Student Association
Attended Boys state this summer
Will likely be president or vice president of school debate team come fall term
I'm a minority, if that helps any (black)
Umm. I'm sure I have more stuff but I can't think of it off the top of my head now, haha.

I appreciate any help you guys can give me. And any pointers if I can improve on something. Thanks

Are you instate?

Because if you are, I’m pretty sure you’ll be accepted into the university. I don’t know if you might get accepted into the specific college/program you want, but you have a decent chance of getting into everything but maybe business or an honors program.

Your SATs are well above the average at UT, have some extracurriculars, and if you took a decently tough schedule I really don’t see how you wouldn’t get into the university.

Yes. I’m instate. I’m concerned that since I’m not top 8% I won’t have a chance at getting in.

Apply as early as you can - like months prior to the deadline - and when you put down your first and second choice majors I don’t recommend putting down 2 schools that are difficult to get into (ie business, engineering,…), my recommendation would be put the major you want as your first choice and education as your second, that is usually one of the safest bets and you can always apply for an internal transfer if necessary. With this said I know people that were 3-4 people outside of the top 10% that applied this year and were rejected but your chances are higher seeing that the number of auto-acceptances will decrease. Good luck and remember apply early early early (but of course not before you have had a chance to perfect your essays and such)

^Good advice.

I wasn’t in the top 10 % when I applied (only a few spots away), but got into natural sciences. I however was kind of a mess when it came to the application itself: I wrote both essays + sent the application at the day before the deadline. I missed out on scholarships because of it, so if you want/expect any, I’d send it in ASAP.

Still though, I think you have a great chance of getting into the school itself. I’d say that while the 8% hurts you in that you can’t get an auto admit, it doesn’t matter that much since you weren’t in the top 10% anyway.

Hell, I’d even say that this helps you to get into the university since less kids will get in with straight auto admits, meaning that UT will have more spots available to students like you, and since your test scores are much better than the average applicant, you should have a great shot at getting into the university.
