I know transfering into SCS is hard..but...

I heard on my visit, that it was extremely popular for double majors at cmu. That being said, do you have to be a member of both colleges? Because I heard a lot of people do CS with something else.

Like for example, if I do Mech.E, can I double major in CS (without killing myself)

SCS students double major quite often and so do many others. The key is the substantial overlap in required courses in many programs such as SCS/ECE or SCS/Math

MechE as you have already observed is very different from SCS-- close to little overlap.
Chances are from APs you have the credit for what little overlap there is in the first year: Physics, Chem, AP Com Sci and Calc (most CS students come in with most of the science , calc and cs done). CS students need 4 science or engineering classes. MechEs need to take specific science classes-- one year physics and chem.

It would be an incredible stretch- but doable.
Have you considered a CS minor or Robotics Minor instead of a CS major?

You don’t transfer into CS- you simply add the second major after you complete the required courses – new curriculum, 122, 150, 210 at minimum plus math concepts.

Best bet, concentrate on your MechE classes and take a CS class asap in fall rather than freshman english.

The two advisors you need to talk to are Kurt Larsen in CIT and Jacobo Carrasquel in SCS – these are the freshman advisors.

This will be much more doable if you get 5s on all your AP exams in May.

BTW --nice job on the fence painting-- !

Thanks haha. idk if you saw it, but if you didn’t:

But yes. I don’t know if you remember, but I am actually a physics major at MCS technically. But I talked to a lot of people at cmu and they said physics –> Mech.E is very common and shouldn’t be a problem. I just want to the ability to work in CS if I happen to like it. I guess a minor might provide that. And yes, i plan to do robotics.

All of this is assuming I can bet past 251 (dun Dun DUNNN)

And as far as AP’s…my school only offer s 4 total. I will be taking Calc BC (hoping for a 5), English Litt (I have little hope), and psyche…which I am just doing because it is easy and may open up my schedule. I will also have two fine arts classes, an astronomy class, and a phys ed class (which i don’t think will count) from Kent State. So hopefully I can open up my schedule a little bit.

Physics MechE double very manageable!

CIT students need 8 GEs (as do most colleges) and they are quirky-- 3 must be in a related (same major). In CS, it’s 8 GEs, but three must be pick one column a, column b, column C.

So it you arlready get credit for the two fine arts classes and are going to be a meche, then take one more art/music class and your depth sequence is done. your pe class is worthless for cmu credit-- doesn’t mean anything. Astronomy will be a free /open elective in every school.

If you are thinking meche/physics/ or cs,
your first semester should be Physics, Intro to MechE (probably will not get a spot), calc (whatever you place in to after the cmu placement test) and CS 15-110 and freshman english (which everyone has to take). It’s the same four courses regardless of which of those majors you are considering. (although if you were going to be a cs major-- then skip physics and take 15-127 concepts --which is required for the CS major but none of the others on your list).

Right now your deposit is for MCS so you’ll be advised to take physics or chem or bio…hold the bio – that is not needed for any major other than the MCS major…so jump into chem or physics. If one of the two is fresh in your mind- take that one.

Don’t blow your calc ap!

Hopefully the key point I didn’t get to here was-- there’s way too much flexibility and you can assume any one of these three majors fairly easily without much difference to your first semester. CS a bit more restrictive-- if that is really of interest, get into 127 concepts of math. otherwise, you could change your mind several times first year and it will be fine.
