Yeah, they’re occasionally really off. It also doesn’t help if Michigan’s deferring near-full-pay Illinois residents with top 4% class rank and 34 ACT scores who actually want to go (a buddy of mine, of course), but such is the way of the world, I suppose.

@lindsy, I’d actually really love to read your essays. If they were that incredible, and your stats were equally amazing, then the admissions committee was obviously wrong!

EDIT: You had a 26. Please, please don’t try to make it seem as though you were a “shoe-in” and better than me when your score was a) well below average and b) 9 points below mine!

I think you will get in besides your gpa everything seems great and I think not being treated for your adhd explained why your grades might have been lower then they should have been plus being urm should help

Last year some of my friends with 34 and 3.6s got rejected. However you do have amazing ECs. Best of luck to you!!

URM
Low uGPA, but good wGPA, stats, ECs, rec letters

As long as nothing strange happens like the adcoms sensing some character flaw, you’re definitely in, with a good shot at scholarships. All in all just make sure you come across as someone enthusiastic/friendly that the adcom would like to hang out with for the next 4 years.

i’m applying to the kinesiology school and their average ACT is a 27… it is not really below average. i dont know why you guys are being so mean to me.

Because you ran your mouth about being a shoe in, then didn’t get in. Then continued to tell everyone how you are still getting in and they screwed up. And, you are applying to Kines, which we all know is where the dumb athletes go.

you know the admissions office looks at these threads right? I hope they see how much of a bully you really are.

and i have never ran my mouth about being a shoe in. EVER. you can look through ALL my posts if you would like. before the admissions decisions came out i was just as nervous as everyone else was. and I actually doubt I will get in and I have never told anyone that I am going to get in and they arent. yes michigan is my dream but I am probably not good enough for them. so thanks for making me feel like crap.

Guys calm down here. No need to get rude. I understand you guys may be frustrated, but don’t take it out on each other.

thank you @ajhhs12

Lindsy, I agree the OP has perhaps been unwarrantedly rude on this thread. However, other posters have some hard feelings for you I believe because of your demeanor in the EA discussion thread regarding deferrals. You made a lot of people feel like crap when you told them they were unlikely to get in BC they had a “bad” deferral letter whereas you had a good one… just sayin.
Other than that I agree ppl don’t need to be mean to each other, this is a stressful process for all of us, and I wish good luck to you all.
As to the OP, high ACT and low GPA comes off as lazy, although your circumstances might make the adcoms look at it differently. I was told my 3.7 and 33 ACT did not look good, but it was good enough to get me in.
Good luck everyone

I’m actually not a bully whatsoever–in fact, I’d say there aren’t many people I know as constantly nice as I am. I just really don’t appreciate when people attempt to shoot me down, rather than giving a constructive opinion, because he or she didn’t receive the result they’d desired. I sincerely apologize if I came off as aloof or as a jerk–I truly didn’t mean to appear as such–but I just can’t stand when people do things like that.

@UM32194 I misunderstood some info about the deferral letters and went a bit overboard to compensate for hard feelings towards the deferral. I did address this on the thread and I believe I apologized for it but if not i will do it right now.

@lindsy that’s understandable, I would have been crushed with a deferral as well and looked for reasons to think my chances were better than others. You don’t need to apologize to me, but I’m sure other people on the other thread appreciated your apology. I’m sorry for not seeing it. Good luck and let’s all stop fighting like silly little kids (:

So how about that Sugar Bowl?

Hoke >> Hokies

The OP is an URM and has a learning disability. If his school counselor mentions that in her/his recommendation, and stresses that his performance at school has improved significantly since he was diagnosed, the OP has a reasonable chance.

You have amazing standardized test scores compared to the 8 students from my school who got in (highest act was 30). Then again those 8 were 3rd through 9th and 15th in the class (first didn’t apply and second was deferred). as long as you write good essays I think you will get in because you have pretty good ECs too

Sent from my SCH-I510 using CC App

You def got a good trend going there & nice EC’s. Possibly you could submit some supplementary documents regarding your ADHD or talk about it in the “extra info” section on the common app. Nail the essay too.

Also, don’t rely too much on those online statistical chances sites…last yr I applied to Case Western Reserve University as a safety (which had a 75% acceptance rate or something) and was totally baffled when got deferred then waitlisted since I got into way more selective places including umich.
So two lessons you can take from that are: 1. don’t rely too heavily on chances sites. 2. don’t think you don’t have a shot at some of the more “elite” colleges if you didn’t get into a college w/ a higher acceptance rate.
