I know you guys all hate this, but

Do cousins count for legacies?

You know like, having a Harvard grad for a cousin or

cousins who are in Yale and Stanford...

Does this make your chances better at those schools?

Or is it insignificant?

Does it have to be your mom, dad, or siblings?

Just wanted to know

QUESTIONS:
I don't really know how to use this site and the "help" menu doesnt help much

What's bump?
people say bump....in replies.
what's that?

What's that yellow circle thing next to the title of the post.
sometimes it's gray, sometimes it's yellow. I dont get it.

How do you search through the posts?
like when you want to look at all the threads with "Harvard" in context etc.

No. At some schools grandparents count, but that's about it.

Yeah. Pretty much it's either parents or siblings, but if you want to try and stretch it sometimes grandparents may work.

Like others said, cousins don't usually count as much as parents, grandparents, siblings, etc.

Bump means "bring up my post." Basically, you have nothing to add to the thread, but you want to bring it back up to the top of the forum so more users can see it.

I think the yellow circle means you have not read the post, and the subject of the thread will be in bold. A gray circle means you have read the post and the thread subject will not be bolded.

To search through the forum, hover over "Search" on the navy toolbar near the top of the page (between "New Posts" and "Quick Links"). That should work ...

how do you "bump"? What do you click on? I have several smart cousins in
ivies, but it sucks to hear that it doesn't help :(

Is there any way that having cousins at the school your applying to, help you?

I suppose you can have them introduce you to some professors and help get you on their good side. Sometimes they might put in a good word for you.

Would having your cousins write your recommendations as an alumni, help you? Or would it look really pathetic:(? like being Korean and taking
SAT II Korean (no offense to Koreans; I am Korean)

somebody? anybody?

Can't answer that question, but if the circle is yellow and the title is bold, then there are new posts on the thread that you haven't read yet.

I have heard this question many times before. Being a cousin does NOT help your chances as far as legacy is concerned. Plus, I wouldn't count on ANY type of legacy at ANY school, because if that is the only way you can get in, you probably are taking a spot away from a kid who really has worked hard for that spot. That being said, I wish you the best of luck.

Yeah good luck to you too, "IHATESAT" since evidently you must be one of the ones who try so hard to get a spot
