Seriously. The people here are obsessed. Retaking excellent scores like 2200. Besides, it looks bad on teh college app. But teh best is when you retake and get lower. I laugh so hard when people get lower.

Retake a 2200. I'd be happy to get a 2200 in the first place and then NEVER WORRY ABOUT SAT AGAIN!

Well, if someone is not satisfied with what they got, its upto them to decide whether or not to retake. For you 2200 may seem high enough for some its not.

As someone who is retaking a score >2200, I'd like to point out my reasons:
1. I know I can do even better. I don't want to send something that doesn't reflect my potential.
2. I know I'm going to need whatever advantage I can get.

So, in conclusion, if one's sure that they can do even better, why not retake?

p.s. it only looks bad after the 3rd retake

Even then it looks bad only if the person isn't improving.

I retook my 2260 and got a 2350. Please, laugh.

Collegeboard LOVES SAT consumer whores. That's how they stay in business.

And yes, I am indeed laughing, Koolcrud. You got jipped out of your test fee and only negligibly increased your chances at upper tier schools. Congrats - you've been had!

Why retake the test if you've already scored in the 99th percentile? That's insanely stupid. It's YOUR $40-60 test fee I suppose, but if you're willing to toss around your money (or, more likely, mommy and daddy's money) like so much garbage, feel free to send me an envelope full of the green. I'll take it.

I can see both sides...i mean, if you missed a perfect score by ten points...you feel like you just missed it with your 2390. Or with the 2200, you could feel like you couldve done a lot better. On the other hand there are kids, like me, who score 1790's and still make it into a great college of their choice...then they see no reason why someone with a 2200 would want to retake. Different perspectives call for different opinions

Really, a 1460 being improved to a 1550 will only "negligibly" improve my chances at top tier schools? You have absolutely no idea what you're talking about.

It doesn't look bad if you take it more than one time and not improve, but I guess it depends on the admissions deparment of the university.

So, let me put myself as an example, I took te SAT six times already, and each time that I took it, I improved and ... sometimes I didn't improve, but I still got into the top schools, they always take the highest score anyways (the schools I applied to.)

If by chance I made something below my highest score, like way below, then it wouldn't matter or change their decision, because it was my highest score that mattered.

There are a lot of factors to include when look at SAT scores.

6?!!?!??!?!

i laugh at people like you who make POINTLESS threads.

Yeah, Koolcrud, 1400-->1500 won't do squat if you don't have other qualifications. 1500--->1600 will do even less. Even with a 1400, you're already within the range of most ivy leagues, and going higher won't help you.

I got accepted into an ivy league school with a 1420 and a 3.26 GPA, so clearly my numbers didn't stop me. I don't think going higher would've helped. I don't think lower would've hurt me, either.

And tonsofguns, you must be an idiot. Your post is just as pointless as you purport this thread to be.

Obviously my test scores aren't all I have going for me... However, there is no doubt that a 1460 is not the same level of score as a 1550. You can tell, y'know, those 90 points there...

Being in a schools' range is not nearly as good as being above their range.

Tothose of you who think 40 dollars is too much, think about how you will feel in a couple years when you are in your 3rd or 4th choice college. 40 bucks will seem like alot less.

I retook and my SAT score rose by 1800 points - ha!

a gentleman i know retook his 1470 and got a 1550. that allowed him to meet the cutoff (1500 SAT) for a $120,000 scholarship. He (and i ) laugh at you!

i laugh at you for retaking besides 120,000 scholarship is worthless if it is at a bad school like usc. 1550 is not a good score either.

Hmm. Why do I feel like you're specifically targeting me, hikaru? Ah well, I don't get mad . . . just glad (copyright symbol).

Mkay, I have a 2200, and I also want to go to USC with a scholarship (It isn't exactly my top choice though.)

1) I know for a fact I could have done 80 points better, therefore I would like to have that score.

2) I am trying to get a scholarship for USC. I don't know by what basis you say it's a bad school, but your sadly mistaken. It, by no means, is a bad school. The education there is great.

3) 1500 is a cutoff that very few people make, and I would feel good knowing I made it. I have a 1490 with a 720 math. I know I can improve math, so it's up to me if I want to do that.

4) I'm not paying for it, my loving parents are. It's 40 dollars anyway, years from now, that won't matter unless I would have invested it, which I can do with different funds anyhow.

5) Maybe it isn't all about improving my chances, maybe it's about doing better than one of those jerks who thinks he's smarter cause his points are 50 high thanks to his fancy tutor. (hint hint).

6) Retaking doesn't necessarily look bad on "teh college app" unless
a) You do way worse or
b) You look obsessed.

I will make a better score, and I am taking it Twice. Only twice. What's the harm in taking it twice? Once. Twice. Scores improve, I'm done with it.

7) What business is it of yours? Are we hurting you? Are we snatching 40 dollars from your pocket? Are we forcing you to sit through the test, or study for another? Hikaru, you have a 2300+, is it so bad for me to try to get that? I think not.

8) I actually don't have an 8th point, but I just want to look like I'm saying something when I'm really not.

So laugh if you must, but when I increase my score by over 50 points, and break 1500 M+V, I'll laugh privately, and I believe the one who laughs last laughs best.
