I am an International seeking Aid

What does an average of 80% mean? In the US, it usually means a B- which is no good for schools like Reed.
You'll need to post your SAT/ACT and SATIIs before anybody can chance you.

About the SAT scores

80% here in India is straight A in everything :) I know its weird but the Indian system is comparitively difficult than the American counter part. WES and Duke also evaluate 80% as A

"I am an International seeking Aid"

Is working against you.

I know that but I cant help it.

My father is an army officer in the Indian Army. There is no way he can afford my education considering the huge currency difference which is around $1 = Rs 50 !

I would guess your curriculum will be a little hard to evaluate and ought to be supplemented by some SAT Subject tests (SAT II), too, at least one of which is related to your intended major. You'll need to take those by the December sitting, preferably the November sitting to ensure timely arrival of scores. I would strongly suggest you contact the Reed Admissions office for further advice.

Looking at the Reed Website, it would seem you have a chance at aid, depending on your scores. You might also want to consider other colleges that are "international friendly." See

http://www.macalester.edu/admissions/international/

for example. Macalester is similar to Reed in selectivity and situation (in a large city) but has a somewhat different atmosphere. It is, however, well known for its emphasis on the presence of international students.

Please see my post in your other thread where you indicated you would be applying for "the Eng discipline."

If you mean "English" you're set. Reed has that major.

But, if you plan to study ENGINEERING, Reed isn't the right school for you. Reed does NOT have an engineering department, so you can not major in Engineering or study Engineering at Reed. They do have strong science and math departments at Reed, but that is not the same as studying engineering.

Reed does have some agreements with engineering schools where you do a certain number of years at Reed and then study engineering elsewhere, but that is VERY different than heading to the U.S. to study engineering right off the bat. Be sure you understand the differences and the complications of taking this route if that is your intention, especially if you need financial aid.

ajayc, i think that you have a good shot at Reed. Reed looks for the SAT CR scores the most - for internationals. If you get 750 + in Cr, i feel that you have a very good shot at Reed. However, it would depend on other Indians applying to Reed as well because Reed takes international students for diversity as well. Apply ED. You have a better chance of getting in!

Well by Engg. I meant engineering. I think I will apply ED II as I will be applying ED to Dartmouth :)

"I am an international student seeking aid"

Actually reed is very generous in international financial aid. I am an international student from nepal and not only do i get a full ride, but also a little stipend to buy educational supplies. all of my buddies from nepal are also in more than 90% financial aid. If your family annual income is less than $5000, and if you are a steller student, which I see you are, rest assured that you will get a full ride to reed.

w00t! Now that is some news! `

From the Reed webpage

"Since our funds are limited, we can only offer financial aid to approximately 15 to 25 international students each year. In a typical year, 100 to 125 qualified international freshman and transfer applicants compete for these few awards. For applicants who demonstrate need, Reed will admit only those who also receive financial aid awards. All offers of financial assistance include grants, work opportunities, and loans."

For internationals, only ed1 or regular applicants get aid.. Not ed 2.. Weird tho..

I just realized you knew the ed2 thingy already

Wait, so if ED I gets aid, but ED II doesn't... does that mean RD gets none as well? :(

No, ed you can apply for aid,ed 2 if you need aid you cant even apply- not that you don get aid, regular you can apply for aid

ajay, you didn't read the following post:
"But, if you plan to study ENGINEERING, Reed isn't the right school for you. Reed does NOT have an engineering department, so you can not major in Engineering or study Engineering at Reed. They do have strong science and math departments at Reed, but that is not the same as studying engineering."

Read it.

I read that.

I plan to major in either physics or engg. I plan to major in Physics at Reed.

You plan to apply ED to Dartmouth and EDII to Reed??? You can only have ONE early decision application to ONE school. Unless you're trying to play against the admissions game...

Let's say EDI for Dartmouth is due Nov 1, with notification by Dec 15, and Reed's EDII is due Jan 2 (I know this for sure b/c I'm applying EDII) with notification by Mid February...

Now then, if you're accepted at Dartmouth under ED, then you CANNOT apply EDII to Reed, or apply anywhere else for that matter. Early Decision is binding, and if accepted ED at Dartmouth, you have to go there.

Now then, if you're rejected from Dartmouth EDI, then EDII for Reed is still okay to do.

Just a heads up.

oni- tons of people apply for both ed 1 and 2! You can wait for the ed 1 decision then only apply ed2.. Simple thing to do.. 2 week gap between ed 1 notification and ed 2 deadline.. If the schools allowing ed 2 do not want students to apply ed 1 at other schools.. They would have made the ed 2 deadline earlier..
