I like to major in something but what can i major in?

let me tell you about myself i'm new to this forum so no idea where to post this stuff. I like computers but the thing is i have a learning disability retaining information i can only visualize to remember. my english skills is horrid and my math learning disability is hard i failed calculus in highschool i try really hard and got help from alot of teachers wish i had a tutor though but couldn't afford it back then i still can't either i was in a special program in highschool i haven't been to college though and i want to go back so so so bad and have a career job. but what are good computer careers? be nice to go to a university too.

anybody know what i should major in? that deals with pcs

Community College may be a good option for you. You could decide what to major in while taking all of the standard math and English classes. I’m sure you could take a few classes that deal with computers as well.

I agree with BigLebowski. It’s a good low-pressure, low-cost way for you to ease back into classes after 10 years away. You might also want to look into self-educating yourself about computers, to see if it’s a field you’d like to invest in for your education. There are many online tutorials available (one my friends and I are fond of is Code Academy) that will help you learn some computer and programming basics.

well i wish i knew what careers are in the computer field if i start off in community college hopefully get my grades up. i do have a learning disaibility but i like to have a nice career nice job that has stability. I was thinking computer information system or if its not a computer job accoutant. I’m sure i’m good at something.

appearently that programming basic seems helpful i feel like i’m learning

If you have a learning disability and have been medically tested there are often programs at community colleges that can help you.

Starting off in a community college is like a second chance to get into the university of your choice. If you do well at community college, there’s no reason you can’t transfer to a great university. They offer a lot of remedial math and english courses at community colleges if you’d like to brush up on those skills.

I think CIS would be a good field to go into and make decent wages. Most of the people I met at my college orientation were majoring in that as transfer students.

I want to know about cis is it to much programming like computer science ? i don’t know if i can handle to much programming but if its light maybe. and what about SATs or whatever they are called and community college? how do i transfer it to a university do i need to take sats or just transfer my credits from a community college to a university it will be in state for sure not looking for a high class university just something in state that i can get into that is accredited.

I don’t think any of the people I know in the program have taken a programming class yet.

You don’t need to take the SAT’s if you’re going to a community college and complete two years of coursework relevant to your major there. All you have to do is transfer your credits and community colleges often have articulation agreements with your in-state universities.

I’d say start looking at state colleges and check out their programs/degree offerings. You could probably find some help from a school counselor at whatever community college you go to.
