good gpa (if it's unweighted), but you should try to take on more leadership positions within your ECs. Also, try to take at least 2 SAT II exams.

I would suggest registering for for and going to Barnard's open house on either October 9th or the 16th especially since you are already here in the city. It would be a good opportuntity to put in some face time with the adcoms, sit in on some classes meet some folk, etc.

I'm focusing my essay on the fact that I moved to the United States at the age of eight, that I'd like to go into international affairs, and my experience at Empire Girls State (it all ties together) . Does that sound appropriate to you guys?

lol...are you really worried you won't get in with those grades and test scores? I would think Barnard would be your safety, but if you love it that much, write good essays and apply ED, put a lot of work into the application, and you should be in for sure!

lol yes I am really that worried because I'm not exactly in love with my backup schools. I'd like to stay in NYC and there aren't too many options other than NYU.

I think you look great for Barnard. I would try to incorporate somewhere in your application how you are attracted to to Barnard because it provides an all female education in the coeducational enviornment of Columbia in one of the most exciting cities in the world. I would also mention some of the reasons why attending an all female school is attractive to you.

Amongst liberal arts colleges, it is ranked # 29 with a 27% acceptance rate. 83% of the freshmen are in the top 10% of their h.s. graduating class.

Margar1taville,

the biggest obstacle that I see for you is coming from NYC you will be evaluated against the pool of NYC applicants including kids from Stuy, bx. science, and all of the elite prep schools.

For the class of 2010, 456 applied early decision, and 175 were accepted. That was an acceptance rate of 38.4%. For regular decision, 914 were accepted out of 1,143 applicants which was an acceptance rate of 23.7%

According to princetonreview.com the avg. GPA for admitted freshman at Barnard is 3.96 (it's not clear whether this is weighted GPA or not, though...). Avg. SAT score is 1380.

You seem to be right around the averages for everything, even if your SAT score could use a couple more points to hit the avg. exactly. Because you love it so much, though, definitely register for open houses, sit in on classes, do an interview...you live in NYC, so it should be easier for you than most to convey a real interest in the school.
