How's the school?
How diverse is it?
How are the sports?
How are the academics? it should be very good.
What is the most special thing in Choate?
Is the food very good?
Favorite menus?

I LOVE CHOATE! CHOATE! CHOATE!

Well, since no one has responded to either of your two posts about Choate, I’ll chime in as an alum. and the parent of a senior who started as a freshman.

How’s the school? I am biased and I try to be upfront about my bias. Having said that I think Choate is a great school. To me one of the distinguishing things about Choate is the friendliness of the students. There don’t seem to be a lot of cliques and the kids seem to genuinely like each other and get along. I’m not sure exactly why this is. Maybe because most of the freshmen boys live in one dorm together and most of the girls live in another. After that people in the same class continue to live predominately together (although it does get somewhat mixed up the next three years). Also, most underclass dorms have at a couple of proctors who are seniors. Being a proctor is very competitive (lots of kids want to do it). Having a couple of nice seniors on your floor (who want to be there) also helps to create a friendly environment and gives you an older student to turn to for advice/help.

How diverse is the school? I don’t have actual figures, but again I think Choate is very diverse. It is racially diverse. It is geographically diverse. It is ethnically diverse. It is economically diverse. And there is just a wide variety of kids - athletic kids, bookish kids, math and science kids, language and literature kids, kids who like art or theater, kids who are into computers, etc. My son is friends with kids from down south and from up north, with athletic kids and nerdy computer kids. One good friend is from the Middle East and is Muslim. And BTW I would not characterize my son as someone who is wildly extroverted. He’s pretty quiet and likes computer games, movies, board games, etc.

How are the sports? Sports and sport facilities rival that of some small colleges. But I think that’s probably true of most of the top BS

How are the academics? Excellent, although very demanding. There will almost certainly be kids there who are much smarter than you. You will have a ton of homework. You will sometimes have to stay up late to do it. You will get stressed out. But you will get a great education.

What is the most special thing about Choate? At the end of the day its not about the buildings or the facilities. It’s not how good the school looks on paper. It’s not about how highly the school is ranked by some national magazine. It is about the people you meet, the teachers who inspire you and the friendships you develop. That’s what makes Choate special.

Is the food good? Well, how good is the food at home? If you eat like a king at home, you’re probably going to be disappointed. But for cafeteria food, it’s pretty good and they generally have multiple selections at every meal.
