Hey guys, I am just dying to go to George Washington's bs/md program because i love DC area and i love its location and student body. I was wondering if anyone who has been accepted can maybe post up their stats? If not, for all those who are applying this year for 2006 post your stats we all of us can see the caliber of students that are applying. Thanks. Any input greatly appreciated.

hey bonder 123, i just got in this year and I would be glad to help you out in any way possible. Here are my stats in a nutshell.

32 ACT
1430 SAT (690 V, 740 M)
SAT 2: 760 math 2C, 750 writing, 710 chem
ranked 3/670 (all honors and AP classes)
clubs: Student govt. class president, NHS Vice President, Mathletes Vice President, Science Olympiad, Key Club, Orchestra.
Medical Experience: 2 years of volunteering in the E.R. (maybe like 80 hours)
+ I shadowed a cardiologist a few times
Work experience: summer internship at fermi national accelerator lab

Pretty much, my numbers dont jump out too much, but they meet the requirements to apply. My list of clubs and med experience set me apart from the pack. They provided me with a lot to talk about at my interview.

rehan, if you dont mind, what made you choose GW? and bonder123, do you think you could describe the student body ? thanks so much guys!

I got into 3 combined med programs: GW, University of Miami, and Saint Louis University.

I had a really tough time deciding between GW and UM, but in the end I picked GW because the requirements to stay in the program were much easier. At GW, I wont have to take the MCAT AT ALL and I need to maintain a 3.3 GPA. At UM, I would need to get a 28 MCAT and maintain a 3.7 GPA. Thats not much of a break at all, and at a school like UM I feel like it would be hard to concentrate on work. To be honest, I always second guess my decision, but I feel like I would have done that even if I had chosen UM. Both schools are ranked about the same as undergraduate institutions but UM has a better med school. The social life at both schools is awesome, but UM's is probably better because of the beach/climate factor. The area around GW is awesome though, its right between Georgetown and the White House. And the dorms are amazing compared to a lot of schools. There are a lot of wealthy and JAPPY people at GW, but i think the same also goes for UM. The main point is this (sorry for the rambling): GW is a good school with a good social scene. Thats the balance I was looking for in a college.

hey rehan, thanks for responding, i jus have one quick quesiton, to get an interview u just need like 1400 and top 10% right? and second, do u think that ur research set u apart, i mean i guess it comes down to if u can like amaze them at the interview right?

Those are the minimum #s to apply to the program. So if you have those, you at least have a shot. For the 2004-2005 application process, 600 applied, 60 got interviewed, and 20 were accepted. So as you can see, you need things to make you stand apart from the crowd. I actually didnt have any research, my internship at fermilab was not as glamorous as one may think, but i made it sound impressive anyway. For the interview, I practiced ahead of time by looking up possible questions and rehearsing my answers. Check out studentdoctor.net to see what med students had to say about their interviews. Also, I recommend buying these books: 1) From High School to Med School and 2) The High School Doctor. They gave me all the info I needed to succeed at the interview. Also, know specific info as to why you want to go that particular school/med school. Send a thank you note after the interview, that way they will remember you long after you are gone.

aight rehan, thanks so much for ur advice, thanks for responding and being so helpful, yea hopefully next year ill be able to chill wit u at GW, dam that place is mad nice
