Uh dude, the new building was under construction BEFORE southampton was closed and as of now it is just about finished and ready for room selection.
Also cheap education doesn’t mean anything really, for me it’s better value education here at stony than some $50k piece of **** ivy school.

I blame the commuters for the statistics. There is just so many of them and they ***** and whine about commuting, theres nothing to do, blah blah, because they are freaking commuters.

That’s what I wanted to hear. I hope you are being honest and unbiased, because I think that sentence just helped me make my decision.

I’m really interested in the environmental sciences and zoology in particular. With Southampton closing, I’m really concerned that Binghamton may be a better place to study those things. Is Stony Brook still a better choice with those interests?

I’m also a big fan of outdoor activities. I was wondering if Stony Brook had a hiking club, outdoors club, or anything of the sort.

Perhaps biased because I haven’t ever been to another college. But hey, I am a engineering major with loads of work but I still manage to have fun here and there even though I barely party and what not. I would say I am quite satisfied, not 100% happy cause of the work but in no way unhappy/depressed/etc. It’s just what you make of it, you have to find the fun yourself and not expect it to come to you and don’t expect what works for other people will work for you. If you want to play basketball with friends? Then get a call a few friends and play basket. If you want to watch a movie with friends, then get a movie and the friends and a tv and watch it. Don’t have friends? Then make some.

Perhaps the only downside is there is nothing convenient go out with friends unless you have a car to go off campus, it’s a bit different than other schools that have huge cities next door and easily traveled. Sure there’s a mall but it requires the bus or car and its just a mall you get bored of.

Never heard of a hiking club though now I am curious enough to find out…next semester :P.

I transferred out of Stony last semester, but I say with all honesty that I really liked Stony Brook in my time there. I wasn’t unhappy there, I had a lot of friends, I joined many clubs, and I did exceptional academically. But visiting my friends in other colleges made me want more for myself, and the college experience that I thought I should be having. Looking back, I was never particularly unhappy, but as best as I tried, it was hard to be as content as I knew I could be elsewhere (or am now, for that matter) Even though I made the hard decision to leave (believe me, it was hard, I was adjusted into the Stony environment, I hated leaving all my friends, and I already made a home for myself there) transferring was the best decision I’ve ever made. But even to this day, I do miss a lot of my friends there and I plan on visiting Stony Brook for a weekend when I come back to NY in mid May.
