hey, i just visited Rhodes, and i loved it - the campus, the academics, the professors, and the students all seemed great. A bit more southern than I think I would be comfortable with initially (I'm from the NE), and more religious (in a Christian sense) than I expected, but the students seemed very open-minded and friendly, and I'm ready for something different from what I've been used to in high school. I was also a little worried about the area - my grandfather worked in Memphis and told me that it wasn't much of a city - but I felt absolutely safe on campus. There's even a little guardhouse when you drive in, lol. Also, I didn't have a chance to see the surrounding area (Midtown etc.) but my dad stayed at the Peabody Hotel and said that he saw lots of cute little areas. It also seemed like students really liked the city and commonly took advantage of what it has to offer.

I was also really impressed by Rhodes' great record with internships, grad school placement, and community service. The English and French departments seemed excellent, and the British Studies at Oxford program sounds fantastic.

The only thing that was a bit disappointing was their theatre and fine arts resources - they just have one black box theatre, which was disappointing in comparison to schools with beautiful and extensive drama facilities - Kenyon and Middlebury, in particular. But the head of the drama department was extraordinarily dynamic, and I heard they just got a major fine arts grant, so that will be improving. Also, they did say they sometimes co-sponsor drama programs with the University of Memphis.

Basically, though, I loved Rhodes - and my excellent fin aid and scholarship money there (the best that I received) certainly doesn't hurt either.

I'm tentative to post this (even though i have to make my decision in like 5 days, lol), but i think there's a very strong chance that i'll be joining the class of 2009 in the fall. :)

anyone else?
