I’m messing up and it’s my first year

Hey, so I go to csula and it’s my first year. My first semester I took 4 classes and didn’t pass one, I was put on academic probation. This year I also took 4 classes and I’m not going to pass one, due to it being online and completely forgetting the deadlines. I’m scared and disappointed in myself, and I’m not sure what will happen to me next. Has this happened to anyone before? Any advice? I’m afraid that I’ll be kicked out of the school or something

Yes, I’d assume you will be. No one online can help you focus on school work and track deadlines. What other options do you have? Can you move back home with your parents and get a job? You don’t sound like you feel much incentive to pass your classes - I’m not sure I’d even suggest community college at this point. Maybe a trade school?

Yeah definitely it was a matter of discipline that I didn’t have. I’m a commuter, so I I live at home. I definitely want to continue going to a four year, I’m just upset of how my semester is going and now I’m not sure of what will happen next or what I can do to fix this. I’m doing well on all my other classes expect for my online one.

Ohhh. I misunderstood. I thought you passed none. (Like, “not even one”). Okay, you might be all right. Did you get put on probation after last semester? If not, you probably have at least one semester to right the ship. They usually notify you if your GPA is below a certain point, then you get a semester to fix it.

So… can you avoid online classes going forward? If not, you really have to treat it like in person classes. Set aside time for it several times a week. Print the syllabus and put the dates on whatever calendar/tracking system you use. One risk you have is that you might end up needing an extra semester to graduate, which is costly.
