I´m up for judging.

I was completely unaware this forum existed. You´ll forgive me-- I´m only beginning to familiarize myself with College Confidential. For the record, I applied to UChicago, Vassar, Middlebury, Wellesley, Georgetown, Dartmouth, Williams, Columbia, Yale, Harvard, Princeton, and Boston College.

My stats:

SAT I: 800 Critical Reading, 800 Writing, 660 Math (I can't count, honestly)
SAT IIs: 800 Spanish, 770 U.S. History, 740 Literature
Rank: 1 out of 124
APs: AP Scholar with Distinction; by the end of the year, I'll have completed eleven courses.
Teacher Recs: We're not allowed to see them, but I assume they were stellar. Pre-slacker days, I was a favorite.
Counselor Rec: Again, we're not allowed to read recommendations. Nevertheless, I hope it was pretty good.
Extracurriculars: I'm a member of a number of clubs (the debate team, Green Project, National Honors Society, etc,) and am captain of the school's Knowledge Bowl team, as well as Chief Editor and co-founder of the school's newspaper. I do a lot of swimming in my free time.
Hook: I'm passionate about journalism-- I was an intern at La Prensa, my country's largest newspaper, and I worked with a USA Today correspondent on a feature story about Daniel Ortega. I'm currently hammering out a story on female convicts, again for La Prensa.
Essays: I wrote one about being an odd duckling in my AP English Lit. class (I was a fourteen-year-old sophomore who had been accelerated into a previously all-senior class.) The other essay was about my experiences with the USA Today correspondent-- following Ortega's campaign trail, the interview itself, etc. My father was jailed by Ortega during the Sandinista regime, so meeting Ortega was a strong emotional and intellectual experience.
Location: In case it wasn't obvious-- Managua, Nicaragua, of Iran-Contra infamy.
Other Thoughts: Nicaragua is the second poorest nation in the hemisphere, and I´m only the second person to score an 800 in my school´s history. I´m uncertain about whether or not this sets a different standard for my application.

Hmmm...Well you're a conundrum. Your stats say that most of the schools you applied to are reaches. Your hook, though, is very, very interesting. I'd say you're probably going to be accepted at BC and Georgetown based on your stats alone. All the other schools are reaches, with Harvard, Yale, and Princeton being big reaches...But, with that hook...Well...I'll bet you get into at least half the rest of the schools you applied to. Just can't say which half.

I´ve already gotten likely letters from Dartmouth, Wellesley, Williams, and Middlebury. I should also point that Nicaragua lacks the academic infrastructure available in the U.S. There simply aren´t any awards or competitions to aspire to in the country. In the recent past, my high school has had numerous 1200s and 1300s accepted into Harvard, Yale, Princeton, etc. It might´ve bred a complex in many of our graduates, but that doesn´t stop the speculation, does it?

I should note that I appreciate the comment, amptron. :)

You're one of the few in everywhere. Take a better look Amptron

Wow... Thanks. Optimistic or otherwise, that bit of hope means a lot to me.

Go for YALE JOURNALISM!

I think that many of the schools that you mentioned will accept you. You are an outstanding international applicant as well as an outstanding Hispanic/Latino. I also think that the journalism hook will be appreciated by some of these schools.

And an acceptance from Vassar!

An acceptance from BC and from Harvard!
