I think I have a big problem here, but maybe I'm overreacting. I just realized when I was preparing my last app. that I may have sent the wrong recommendation to a few of my schools. They were all from one teacher and all common app, so I just picked one and sent it. The problem is, even though they were all the same, they were addressed to specific schools. I plan on contacting all the schools to inform them of this, and was wondering if this could possibly impact me negatively.

BtW, don't post that I'm stupid; I already know that...

This happens ALL the time. There is nothing to worry about, and no need to correct anything. The Admissions counselors chuckle a bit when we see it but then we move on and it does not impact your review negatively. We know you are applying to other schools, and the Hopkins may not be your first choice. (It should be though - ha ha.)

At least you didn't break the cardinal rule when applying to our school -- spelling the name wrong. It is not:

John Hopkins University
Johns Hopkin University
John's Hopkins University
John Hopkin's University
Jon Hopkins University
Jon Hopkin University
Johns Hopkins College
The University at Johns Hopkins

Oh, what if my teachers or counselor spelt it wrong then!? :( and I just found out that the guy who was working at post-office spelt the school wrong when he put my materials in the box!!!!!! (because when I saw the receipt, it said 'John Hopkins') Does this kill my chance?

You all worry way too much. Don't you think it would be wrong if the reason you were denied admission to a university was because a recommendation provider spelled the school's name wrong? You have no control over whether they spell the name right, so therefore we are not going to hold that against you.

Relax! Your teacher, counselor, or recommendation provider's error will not "kill your chances." But if you spell the name wrong...

so what do you do when u see a John hopkins written in an application...... chuckle and rejecr or chuckle and move on..though even if JHU may be the 1st choice...

i was so skeptical abt the checking of correct spelling that i searched the whole essay and app for JHU names with msword and corrected if any errors were found..

No one will ever be denied just because they spelled the name wrong. However, if the applicant can't even spell the school's name right, that is going to have some impact on the way the adcom reviews. Simply don't do it....

Would you send an app. spelling Harvard - "Havard" OR Stanford - "Standford" - or Duke - "We lose at Lacrosse" -- ooops.

Supposedly one of the major profs in the 60's - I think Dean Schaffer -
was speaking in Pennsylvania, and was introduced as Dean Schaffer from John Hopkins.

He allegedly started his speech

It is a great honor to be invited to this great city of Pittburgh.......

shellzie2006, the first thing I noticed was the "s" or lack there of, but if he was actually in city of Pittsburgh, then rick's comment wouldn't have been witty. However, I assumed he was in a city other than Pittsburgh, but I was hoping the poster could clarify.

Actually, I heard a similar story but it was President Brody speaking in Pittsburgh. I posted about this a long time ago (can't find the post). The speech was in Pittburgh not at UPen (and yes I spelled both of those wrong on purpose).

Overlooking John Hopkins wont be easy as even their subconscious mind was over to track this.,. yet well they may take this with a pinch of salt..
