I made a stupid, stupid mistake

This one-time, poor decision will not prevent you from having a wonderful life. It may, however, disrupt you in the short run. I don’t want to lie to you and say that you have nothing to worry about (but truly, this far from the end of the world).

A good book on the college admission game is called The Gatekeepers: Inside the Admissions Process of a Premier College (written by an adcom at Wesleyan). In it applicant Becca Jannol *confesses/i in the admissions process that she took a tiny bite of a pot brownie in the hall at school. Marijuana is typically considered to be a less serious issue than an honor violation.

Becca’s mistake very much impacted her results, yet in the end it all worked out for her. She was a good kid, after all, just like you apparently are. I am sure it will all work out for you as well, but it is possible that you could encounter some rough water ahead.

Stay strong and have faith in who you really are. If any school does turn away from you because of this mistake, you will find another one which will be happy to have you. Things happen, and we learn from them. You screw up, you dust yourself off, and you learn from it. This is life.

thing is, I don’t even know if it was really a violation…
We were allowed to work together and b/c my friend saw that I had written in pencil, he told me to just take his…

In that case it should be fine. They take context into account. A Guy I know hacked the school site for a prank and April fools Easter egg on the website. Berkeley loved it.

I agree with hannaviolet and Crimsonuser I do not understand how this is an issue. It seems the only cheating you did was not turn in the work in pencil because you found out at the last minute it should have been in pen. So I guess could be considered cheating, since you would have been down graded or received no points for not turning the work in pen. It seems this is getting blown out of proportion and that more attention was drawn to it then necessary. I hate cheating, but I just do not see what you did as cheating. I am glad you learned something from it, because I would just be ****ed.I do not think doing more will help or hurt.

Since you are so nervous about it , it might make you feel better if you have your principal write a letter to attach to the mid-year report.

Good Luck
