I made it to Smith!

Hey everyone,

You probably don't remember me, but I had posted here in the Spring of '07 about applying to Smith and being waitlisted, and then being accepted for fall with very little fin aid and I wasn't sure if I would be able to go.

Well I went, and I am here, in my Senior year (I transferred in as a Junior) and involved in a lot (and I got a lot more financial aid this year, yay!). Let's see, I was a leader in a preorientation program this Summer, I'm in the Lewis Leadership Program, and I'm also involved in Res Life as the Head Resident of the best house on campus (in my opinion). I was also elected onto the Student Government Cabinet as the Chair of the Diversity Committee. I also meet bi monthly with faculty via the Diversity Planning and Social Justice Committees (such as the Deans and Heads of Departments).

Whew, I'm also double majoring in Sociology (emphasis in African American Studies) and Studio Art (emphasis in digital art) with Latin Honors.

So I just wanted to let everyone know that I made it and I'm successful here at Smith. I, for the most part, really love it here, and I fully intend to enjoy my Senior year as much as possible.

Yay Smithies!

Hey, Mer. Good to see you made it. I remember you well. Congratulations.

Wonderful! You go girl!

Congrats! I want to go to Smith-- I hope you love it!

Congratulations! I am so happy you made it work. I thought of Dr. Randy Pausch's quote as I read your post: "The brick walls are not there to keep us out, the brick walls are there to give us a chance to show how badly we want something."

Enjoy your time at Smith. It sounds like you've jumped in with both feet. Good for you!

I just saw the thread and recognized your name! What great news - - not only that you were admitted, but that it is has been all you hoped it would be and that you are contributing so much to the community. I am terribly, terribly happy for you.

Wow, you don't even know how great it is for me to hear your story. I am in basically the exact same situation you were in--last year, i was waitlisted, finally accepted, and then, after all that, ended up not being able to attend bc of insuffficient financial aid.

So, right now, I'm a freshman (as opposed to first-year) at a college in the midwest...and wishing I was at Smith. I've been considering transferring in as a sophomore or junior, and it's amazing to hear that someone else successfully did what I'm hoping to do!

PS i'm also glad to hear that one can become so involved even as a transfer, which is one of my big concerns about transferring in.
