I may have bitten off more than I can chew...

Currently in my final semester before I transfer, I'm taking the heaviest course load I've ever experienced. I want to drop one of my classes so that my entire set of semster grades doesn't go down the tube. In the very slim chance that caltech accepts me, will having dropped one of my classes with a "W" this semester prevent me from being accepted? I've dropped a class with a "W" before. I'm trying to decide whether to drop Biology with a W and ensure that I do really well in my other classes, or keep all my classes and put all my grades at risk. Are there any people here from Caltech who can give me some accurate info? Thanks in advance...

Oh yeah, it's my first biology class...if that makes any difference.

I'm in my final semester at my school and am trying to transfer to tech.

If it makes you feel better, I have two Ws on my transcript.

One is for complex variables, which I withdrew from in order to continue taking a graduate level game theory class.

One is for a grad-level topology class, which was taught by an imbecile.

I think if you have your mind set on a place, you'll get in, some way or another. In the end, that determination will compensate for things that may be less impressive than average.

Have you taken the transfer exams?

Also, if you don't mind discussing w/ me, what are your reasons for transferring?

These W's won't kill your chances, but they won't particularly help. What's done is done -- focus on the rest of your record and try to make it as strong as possible.

qx3kbenzene, I haven't taken the transfer exams yet. I'll do that sometime this week.

My reasons for transfering? I wasn't a strong high school student, so I went to to my local community college to "start over" and hopefully transfer to place I wanted to go to.

Ben Golub, thanks for the advice, but I don't particularly.
When does Caltech send out notifications for transfer students? If it's before the semester ends (in june), and I get excepted (slim chance), would they RETRACT my acceptance when they found out that I withrew from one of my last classes? How does that process go? For instance, I know the Universities of California send out packages that basically say "You've been accepted, but you must finish your final semester's classes with a C or better", but I've never heard anything about withdrawing.

I'm really worried right now :- \ AAAAAAAAAAH!
