When listing my GPA on Commonapp, I put my weighted GPA and of course selected the “weighted” option. However, when it asked for the GPA scale, I think I put a wrong answer.
My unweighted GPA is 4.0 on a 4point scale, but my weighted GPA is 4.6. So, on commonapp, I entered the 4.6 as my GPA but I said that the scale was 5.0, because that’s the highest any of my courses are weighted at my school. Was this the correct answer, or was I supposed to put 4.0 as the scale, since that’s what my unweighted scale is? Will they think that my weighted GPA is a 4.6 out of an unweighted scale of 5.0? Or will they just look at my transcript and see that I’ve made all A’s throughout high school and understand what my GPA really is?
Sorry if this question doesn’t make sense… thank you
Don’t worry about it. People make errors on their Common Apps all the time. They calculate your GPA themselves and will not penalize you for making an error. This is a non-issue. Good luck!
Not all colleges recalculate. Yes, they look at the transcript.
Your GC will also provide gpa and the max scale. The colleges will probably think your entry is just a misunderstanding. But this shows how students should be careful.
@guitar321@lookingforward Thank you both so much! So this shouldn’t affect me, right? I’ve been so worried that they would think my GPA was really low because of this error.
