I already submitted my application to three schools, and in the Activities section I put that I did band for 8 hours a week. I guess when I wrote it down I was including time spent in school plus time spent practicing/performing outside of school. Is this gonna be an issue? Should I email admissions offices asking to change it?
8 hours a week sounds completely reasonable. My son listed more than that and it’s accurate!
You should definitely include practice at home and performance time. So don’t worry, you did not exaggerate anything.
They are not asking how much time you spend in practice, they are asking how much time you are dedicating to this particular activity. If you have to travel an hour in each direction to get to band practice, that should be included as well.
is reasonable. for marching its way higher at 15-20 lol
Not to worry. At most schools they just want to check off the box that says you participated in ECs, which you did. They aren’t going to be that concerned with the hours. And at ultra-selective schools they are looking for leadership and achievement in ECs, so no matter how many hours someone “participated” they don’t become a stronger candidate.
By “ultra-selective”, you mean “the 15-20 colleges with acceptance rates of under 15%, to which about 5% of all college-bound high schools apply, and which are attended by fewer than 2% of all undergraduates in 4 year colleges”, right?
