I may want to do a PhD in business... advice wanted

I'm a nontraditional student at a top university. It has been my ambition to get a business/law degree and pursue a business career. However, I'm discovering in my undergrad experience that I love research. I really enjoy interviewing people, crunching data, thinking up questions, learning new things, writing, publishing. I don't think that publish or perish would be a problem for me because I love to research and write.

My undergraduate degree is interdisciplinary, but I have done research on business topics with business professors. I may want to do more things in the business world and then come back, but I want to know what this option is about before I do it.

I'm thinking that a PhD in business might be a good choice for me, but I'm not really sure what that entails. No one in my family has ever earned a PhD. I've looked up the details online, but I'm curious about what kind of life it is. Does anyone have any advice for me?

Um there's no such thing as PhD in business... You do have Economics or Finance (which is relatively small field).... If you want to get a higher degree in business, do MBA.

Yes, there are PhDs in business. For example:

PhD Program: Stanford GSB

Phd Program Information - University of Chicago Graduate School of Business

Also:

Wharton’s Doctoral Program is One of the Top Doctoral Programs
Ph.D. Program : Haas School

In fact, almost every top business school (with the notable exception of Dartmouth Tuck) runs a doctoral program.
