I got a 59% on my first plant midterm (average was 74%), and I am not sure how well I did on my lab practical. I have 2 exams left and a final. I don't think its possible, for me to get an A-, hopefully I can at least get a B. Based on your experience on the grading of the class, is there any hope for me if I at least get B's and A's on the next 3 exams.

I did really bad too. Sad thing is I studied pretty hard and I had everything memorized. But the professor wants more than that…and to be honest I think some of the questions were bs.
Is this class really not curved? If it is I think we have some hope since this is only 1/7 of our grade

yuuuuuuuuuuup. I ****ed up on the plant middy too (scored like 65%?). That short professor is so tricky and I too messed up on my practical mainly because I didn’t study for it thinking it would be easy and it turned out to be a pain in the ass. Don’t worry about the lab practical. In the end you guys all have to even out to an 85% avg anyway. Just do better on the lab reports and you’ll be fine with that. Not sure if it’s entirely out of reach to get an A-, but a B is easily obtained. A’s in general are a bit hard in Bio 1b I feel just because the grading is pretty rigid (it’s like they want you to spend your life studying that load of crock they teach for an A). If you have Heulsenbeck for evolution, you should really aim to ace that test (or when I had him, he was super easy haha) and then Resh is kinda medium difficulty but I somehow beasted that cumulative final to get my grade.

In my case, I was on the short end of the stick of lab…aka my group was the lowest percentage that brought the avg down. ****en gsi literally failed one of my group’s lab report…

Edit: 1/7 of your grade? What? Did they change the grading scheme?

The midterm was out of 100 points and there are 700 points total
This semester Moritz is teaching evolution. How are his tests?

Moritz’s test was horrible. I took it with him Spring '10 when it was his first semester teaching 1B. I think it was a record-low average for the Evolution portion. Let’s just say there were a lot of people ****ED OFF. He’s probably gotten better at writing midterms for this class now- hopefully.

T_______________________________t

haha that’s not good…doesn’t the class still basically consist of mids, finals and small amount lab?

ahh my gpa…
lab is worth a lot actuallly… 250/750 and rest is from exams

or i think thats a lot

I actually found Moritz’s section the easiest. Just memorize everything he says. He doesn’t really ask “thought” questions.

I had Moritz for the population processes segment of IB 160 (FYI he no longer teaches IB 160). His test in that class was horrible, wouldn’t expect his Bio 1B test to be too different

wow people can pull off a B even after getting a D on a midterm? I didn’t know that. BUt i guess that’s assuming they get top scores A on everything else right?
