I'm only a sophomore but I've still messed up quite a bit.

Freshmen Year=2.3GPA
Sophomore Year= (so far) I believe it's a 2.5GPA
I switched after 3rd quarter to a private school, only 11 sophomore, because I was doing so bad where I was.

I'm looking at colleges such as:
Winthrop
College of Charleston
USC Columbia
USC Beaufort
Palm Beach Atlantic
(big POSSIBILITY) Savannah College of Art and Design (not too hot on going there though)
Furman
I don't really know...just some SC, GA, and FL schools.

I know I can always transfer after first year/semester to a better school.
I've taken French 1 and 2...I have an 82 in French 1, and a 70 in French 2.
I began Spanish 1...had a 60 on my report card, switched schools and had to drop the Spanish.
I have catchup at the new school, summer math, because I was on a block schedule and they are year round.
I'm hoping to pull all A's and maybe a B or two at the new school.
Where do I stand and what do I need to do??
How much of senior year counts for addmissions??
I'm in desperate need of help.
I'm not a very good test taker either...SAT/ACT. =(
Also, my new school doesn't offer different levels of classes...they are all the same. Electives, I don't get a choice, we're put into them!
Where, why, and should I apply early??
I play volleyball, softball, and basketball. I cheerlead, and I'm on the local town newspaper as a teen journalist. I've held a job, and an internship (I'm big on journalism)..um that's about it I guess!

Notebook, I'm afraid I don't know enough about this type of situation to offer detailed advice, but good luck with whatever you do. I would worry more about doing well in classes and bringing up your GPA than about the SAT. If you do well in classes and learn more, it will improve your SAT scores anyway, and your GPA is more likely to cause problems in college admissions than your SAT scores. If your SATs are really a problem, there are a number of schools that don't require standardized tests for admission. I don't know the list personally, but if you search around here a little bit, you should be able to find it somewhere.

Do not be discouraged, there are 3500+ colleges in America. And there is a great one waiting for you. Put your stats into www.collegedata.com once you take the ACT or SAT. Also, look into community colleges, be an honor student at one and transfer to a 4 year college of your choice. Also, check out "College That Change Lives" at www.CTCL.com. Just do your best and success will follow, heads up kid!

I ask that you suffer one more transfer chances question:

My Story:

High school: 2.9gpa
ACT: 23- first time, 24-second time taken junior year of high school

Accepted to Murray State University for Computer Science
Dropped all classes except English-101
Left Murray after one semester with a 2.0 gpa

here is the point where I get my life together

Fall 2005 I enroll at University of Kentucky
4.0 first semester

4.0 spring (current) semester (taking senior level political science classes)
This semester I was offered the position of co-author on two papers by two separate political science professors. I also spent this semester as an assistant on political science research project. I have also been allowed to enroll in a graduate level political science class next semester (fall 06). I am taking the most challenging courses that I can and am pulling a 4.0. I know that I can get some awesome letters of recommendation from the political science department here at UK. Also I have a connection (through a Professor here at UK) to a Political Science professor at Northwestern who is going to try and support my transfer. I am retaking the ACT this May and score 34-36 on the practice tests I have been taking. Writing a killer essay will not be a problem.

I want to transfer after completing one more year here at UK so I can finish a paper I am working on with a Professor and submit it for publication.

Will my high school and Murray disasters keep me from getting accepted? Any help would be much appreciated. What can I do to improve my chances?

i'm sorry to tell you but c of c has become even more rigorous in its acceptance of students, a 2.3 will not get you into the college as a student, not even with a high sat... which is now like on avg our incoming freshman are like 1280.... i think higher for out of state i don't remeber; however, you do have the option of going to a community or a technical college that accepts most students, and if you can make a 2.5 there you can pretty muchly transfer anywhere in that state. I don't think though with your current gpa that you could get in, i don't know about the other schools the only thing i can say is... first off you need to join after school clubs, 2- apply to schools in the state that you live in , the schools are more accepting, you might get a provisional acceptance meaning if you make atleast a 2.0 your freshman year than you are able to become a fully accepted student! and try to take sat prep classes especially if your school offers them..

the good point however is when you apply to the college make sure to note that while you started out badly in high school you have made a steady climb upwards.... that looks good!
