<p>Freshman and Sophomore year, I have received straight A's.
However when Junior year came, my grades began to fall apart. Never been so bad in my life. This is my first semester grade.</p>

<p>My extra curricular activities are really great;
I am hoping my ACT score will be at least a 30.</p>
<p>HOWEVER, that C in math is really really killing me. I lost all my confidence in attending any of the Ivy leagues, because they even reject straight A students.</p>
<p>Even if I were to get straight A's with four AP's in SENIOR year, I am not sure if they will at all help. I just lost all hope.</p>
<p>My top choices are UC Berkeley, UCLA, Stanford, USC, NYU, and etc.</p>
<p>Please tell me if I do have any chances..</p>
<p>btw, my high school is a magnet school, ranked #2 in Chicago. Will that help at all???</p>
<p>It’s going to be hard but not impossible… Try your best with the SAT’s and your essay.</p>
<p>Do you have all your junior year grades yet? Do you go to HS in Cal? What is your UCGPA? If it is better than 4.0, all is not lost for The UC’s.</p>
<p>Ooops! HS in Chicago means your honors classes are unweighted for UC’s, so less than 4.0 UC GPA, which means odds against a top UC admit.</p>

<p>You might want to try a few subject tests.</p>
<p>Honestly… What worries me is not the C, but the fact that you are a junior and are taking Alg II/Trig… honestly speaking, you are the first person that I have seen who wants be accepted into a competitive college without at least taking calculus by junior year. Most applicants have BC calculus as a standard track for junior year. I myself took AlgII/ Trig when I was in 8th grade…</p>
<p>Schlaag, it’s not a problem if he took the hardest courseload at his school. I for one am going to be in AP Calc AB as a senior. BC is not a junior course path. For some, sure, not all. My school gives BC to kids sparingly. I’m at the top of my class and I just barely missed it exause I was taking a lot of APs and they didn’t want me overwhelmed. All I’m saying is its not an out of the norm math path that the op is taking. The B’s and C bothers me alittle more. I would try, especially with HIGH SAT’s and a good app. But just now it’s a difficult path.</p>
<p>Agree with Divy1234. You gotta get your grades up, but more importantly, score as high as you can on your standardized tests (SAT/ACT/Subject Tests/AP’s). Good luck!</p>
<p>I don’t think Alg2/Trig will be a problem unless your major involves math. But yeah, having a C in Alg2/Trig might look bad.</p>
<p>You never know though. Don’t worry about it until you get decision letters back.</p>
<p>Amy, it’s not just the C in Algebra II; your only A’s are in Art and Japanese. Are there some extenuating circumstances, such as illness or family emergency, that led to this decline? If not, these junior-year grades are going to be a problem at all of the universities you’ve named. And an ACT of 30 would be in or near the bottom quartile at Stanford, UCB, USC and NYU, so a 30 on the ACT wouldn’t be any help at all.</p>
<p>And you’re not a Californian, which will make it harder still to get into UCB and UCLA.</p>
<p>I don’t think the numbers look good for you at any of these universities. I expect you’ll still have a lot of options for college, but (absent any mitigating factors) I don’t think these universities are likely to be among them.</p>
