I messed up, what are my chances?

So for some background I was brought up in an area with little emphasis on college, and with no parental figure around most of the time, I slacked off.

I didn’t fully grasp the importance of my education until about the senior year of highschool, and I wasn’t motivated to learn until the second semester of college when I started taking chem/bio classes with a larger gamut of information. The problem is, I messed up in my high credit class and lost my grants and ended up having to retreat to a local college.

My question is: if I preformed excellently at my CC, could I transfer to more selective uni such as Duke, NYU, or Hopkins?

Some background academic statistics:
HS GPA: 2.5 (I know…)
SAT: 2000
College gpa 2.9 (1st year) 3.95 (current)

Any constructive criticism would be greatly appreciated.

I don’t think so. But you don’t need to. There are SO many great schools out there. Don’t sweat it.
