@MA2012 yeah, i’m basically moving forward like i was rejected, because odds are that’ll what happen. people are saying that they accepted 500 or so fewer students so they could pull off the WL but if it happens great and if not i’ll be somewhere i enjoy. thank you!
so frustrated with my guidance counselor- i just called UNM and the reason i haven’t heard back is because the test score on my transcript has NO DATE on it so therefore they will not accept it as valid (probably because they have no idea if it was taken prior to march 2016). i emailed her about this before and she refused to change this and assured me it was fine. i do not and frankly cannot pay the college board another $12 to send this score.
Ugh! That would frustrate me, too.
Tell your counselor what UNM said. If she still won’t add the date, you can go to the head of the counseling department and explain your problem. The VP or Principal may also be able to help.
If you make your request via email, then you have it, and any response or lack of response, in writing. If you can swing it, paying the $12 might be faster and less hassle.
@DiotimaDM she said she’d send them an additional document, if that doesn’t work I’ll just deal and pay the $12. Its just frustrating because my school has given me no advice or assistance thru this process.
On the plus side, point park and ursinus will let me write and file formal appeals. Penn state won’t give me more money but are open to discussing the transfer and they said that wouls be super easy. Pitt Bradford found an extra 800, duquesne was a no go and the person I spoke to was downright rude - I said I’d unfortunately have to move on to other options and her attitude was basically “don’t let the door hit you on the way out”. But the schools I want are letting me file and I have that scholarship form to send to ysu so plenty to do and look forward to!
Did you apply to the Honors College, too? It’s super fast, mostly dropdown boxes.
Thought these might useful in case you haven’t seen them.

I don’t have my unm ID for whatever reason and the rep I spoke to wasn’t super clear on if I should wait to apply after getting my decision (since it asks about school scholarships you receive) so ill be calling thr honors college office tomorrow.
Yay you! sounds like the phone calls went well. Great option transferring to Penn State. As someone said above, this has become my favorite thread. We are all rooting for you to have a great resolution to this process. It is important to believe that a smart kid, who wants to go college should have that opportunity. Keep us posted!
Thank you guys so much! The support from the site and thread has meant so much. I sent in my scholarship to YSU today and will be working on my appeals over the weekend, my counselor sent a supporting document of some sort to UNM today and hopefully that will be enough to get a decision fast. also sent over financial aid stuff to washington college- and got a call today from my adcom that i got $2000 in the dean’s award!
That’s great news about the dean’s award! Please keep us updated! We’re rooting for you!
submitting my appeals today and called UNM and they still haven’t received the doc so i asked my counselor to fax it i feel like with how late in the month it is they’re probably off the table at this point. also scheduled a visit to YSU and hoping to visit ursinus if the appeal goes well.
Any way to swing the $12?
I probably could, I just didn’t know my counselor was screwing around and that they had told her they can’t accept that but no one told me, so I’m not sure if id get a decision and FA in time.
If you’re happy with your other choices, it’s fine to let one go.
Are the other choices affordable enough? If she sends it in today or tomorrow, you’d probably find out in time, esp. if you called and explained the situation to them, about why you need the FA by a certain date. I’m just not sure i’d trust her at this point.
FA hits your portal several days before postal mail, so it would probably be in the portal in time.
Check again with your GC. If he’s not done it, go to his/her boss or get parents involved. It’s their job to get this out on time. I’m sure she/he has tons to do but there’s such a thing as prioritizing. You’re a senior and this has a very clear deadline.
They officially won’t accept anything other than official sat scores, got the email today after nagging my GC. They (my school) claim they can’t alter my transcript and put the date on because it’s computer generated. It’s less than 2 weeks until I have to decide and I think with flights to NM and all those factors considered I’m ok with letting this one go as I don’t think they will be a cost effective choice. I’m waiting eagerly on ursinus’s decision regarding my appeal and I will see how I like ysu after next week.
Oh no, so sorry to hear about UNM and the situation caused by your GC. But I agree with @DiotimaDM that this may be the one to let go. You have YSU and Washington Coll. in the hopper, and your FA appeals with Ursinus and Point Park.
Hard to believe it’s about one month ago exactly that you first posted, and gosh, look at the progress you’ve made. Hang in there!
I’m so sorry.
I guess there’s no choice but to let that one go.
Make sure your transcript is updated though, since you want it ready for the NACAC list (in case one of them makes you a better offer than where you deposited on May 1st.)
If you have a fee waiver left, take the May SAT and opt to send all your scores to the 4 colleges you pick from the NACAC list. Or, if cheaper, just take one subject test. Wouldn’t your GC be required to include that scofrenon all transcripts? The issue would be that the scores may arrive too late.
And of course some NACAC list colleges will be test optional or will accept the scores as they are on the transcript - you’ll have to find out before you apply. Since they’re looking for good students, my guess is that ‘my GC forgot to put the date on’ will seem small potatoes to them.
Got fin aid from Washington college and they’re about 15k as well. Again tuition paid In full between aid, grants, and scholarships, its housing thats killing me. I am going to call unm and see if they will accept a student score report since its so close to the deadline. If not, oh well. I don’t have fee waivers for the SAT, our income was a few hundred above the cutoff, so ill stick with the ones on my transcript and see if I like any of the nacac colleges. I really liked the interdisciplinary film program wth UNM but I could always work hard in undergrad, do my own film projects on the side, and pursue film in graduate school.
Good luck with UNM. Fingers crossed.
How about paying the $12 for an official score? Yes, it’s fine to let UNM go if you have to, but I think their film program would be great for you. They will still award you aid after May 1, but I don’t know how that will affect your other decisions.
