My SAT score is a 1600 CR 460 Math 560 Writing 580 (Which I believe is very bad). I’ve applied to only Cunys and Sunys which is making me worried now. I got accepted into St John’s, but it’s too expensive my mom wants me to go somewhere else, Brooklyn College and City Tech. I got rejected from Queens college, Hunter and Baruch. This is making me really worried because I really don’t want to go to Brooklyn or City Tech. (Their reviews from students were really bad) I have yet to hear from Stony Brook, and Binghamton but with my SAT scores this low, I don’t even know if I stand a chance. My friend scored a 1670 and got into both Hunter and Baruch. I don’t know what to do right now and it’s stressing me out. What should I do?? I feel like the rest will all be rejections and I will be left with the ones I don’t want to go to. I really doubt there’s hope since my other friend with a higher SAT got rejected by Stony. It’s going to really disappoint my family. It’s already disappointing to me.What do you guys think, is there hope?? Do you know anybody with SAT scores like mine or even lower that got into these colleges?
Go talk to your guidance counselor in your school and express your worries now. He or she can get on the phone and talk with admissions. That could make a huge difference but do it now. Send an email to your guidence counselor or advisors and ask for a meeting right away.
Don’t believe everything you read from student reviews. People who write reviews tend to be those with an axe to grind.
Have you visited Brooklyn College and City Tech? Spend a day there over the upcoming vacation-- walk around and get a feel for both schools.
I don’t know the specifics, but it’s pretty common knowledge that both Stony Brook and Binghamton are tough in terms of admissions. Did you apply to any other SUNY schools?
I agree with the preceding poster: make an appointment today with your guidance counselor. He or she will know how best to advise you.
No shame in going to Brooklyn College - it’s rankings are comparable to many of the smaller SUNY colleges and similar schools in other states. Freshman retention rate (the percentage of freshmen who return for sophomore year) is 84% which is a pretty good indicator of student satisfaction. City Tech is less selective than Brooklyn but may have a better program depending on what you’re interested in. If these are your choices, I recommend picking one to go to and work hard to get the kind of solid grades that will allow you to transfer to a school you’d prefer in a year or two. Good luck.
Thanks, I’ll let my counselor know. Also I did apply to Suny New Paltz along with the schools that I forgot to mention. I’m still waiting for a teacher’s recommendation to finish my application though. Also, Stony Brook and Binghamton I’ve applied to EOP as well, so does this boost my chances? I have a 3.3 GPA excluding senior year.
There’s NO WAY a senior should be waiting for a teacher recommendation. Speak to your guidance counselor Monday (any way you could email him/her this weekend??) and have another letter pulled from your file, or email another teacher today and get a letter written ASAP.
Those letters should have been on file in guidance ages ago.
I won’t be needing it anymore because I’ve been admitted to Stony!!!
Congratulations and good luck!
