I might not be able to attend Cal Day!! :(

I had my heart set on attending Cal Day but I might not be able to attend (I have a dance performance on that day)...so I have a few questions about it. I guess I'm trying to decide if it's worth letting everyone down to go to Berkeley on April 18. >.<

What goes on during Cal Day?

Is it truly worthwhile to go? ~~better phrased: Will visiting another day grant me approximately the same experience as going on Cal Day?

How big a deal is Cal Day? Is this the day when all the prefrosh get to know each other? I really don't want to show up to Berk without any friends. :P

Thanks in advance for your help. :)

Cal Day is a huge affair, unlike any other day on campus. It is open to anyone - local community, entering students, parents, students at other schools. They do have a number of activities for admitted students to learn more, but think of a giant street fair or expo to get a better flavor of all that will go on during the day.

Don’t worry. Cal Day is no big deal. You will not miss anything. You will not see anything important to your college career either. It is on a saturday, so you really don’t get see what happens on a typical Berkeley day. All you see is just pomp, bands, performance by cal cheerleaders, tour of dorms and buildings, etc …

Enjoy the remaining days of high school!!!
Congrat to you!!!

It is actually better to come on a random weekday during your spring break. That way you can see Berkeley on a normal day.

I enjoyed Cal Day immensely. There were tours of the campus, and there were special tours on that day to see the res halls. Very informative day; so much to see. I highly recommend it!

cal day = free stuff!

Cal Day is fun, but Cal Day happens every year and it isn’t restricted to any particular group. It’s not really a great way to get a feel for the campus – it’s extremely chaotic and overstuffed compared to any other day. I doubt there are many connections made on Cal Day. CalSO is the first real day for meeting kids in your entering class and starting connections.

I admit Cal Day is nice because there is free stuff, there are lots of presentations, and it really is intended to show the visiting parents and prospective students the best side of the school, but… it’s not necessary. If what you want is to get to know the school, anon5524485 is right: any other random weekday is much better.

If you’re on the fence about coming here, AND you want to check out ALL of the dorms, this is THE day to do it. So, yeah, for me it was a huge deal and LOTS of fun.

I plan on going… for me its over my spring break.

like above posters, cal day is pretty fun (well, for most people) and is definitely worth visiting, however visiting on a ‘normal’ school day will give you the best feel of whether berkeley is for you. Honestly, I didn’t really enjoy Cal Day all that much, I just remembered getting some free stuff and going to some cramped meetings for future Haas applicants. Even so, I’m really enjoying my time at Cal (I’m a first-year), and I feel like Berkeley is a great place that everyone can ultimately find a niche in that they will enjoy for the next four years.

^
very nice.

what kind of free stuff? lol like, tshirts or just pens etc?

hmmm

:) pens.

and shirts

and lots and lots and lots of flyers!!

I’ll probably end up flying out to the bay area Friday morning, taking a brief walk around the campus to get a feel for a weekday there, stay at a cheap hotel or with my sister or uncle, and then going to Cal day on Saturday to get the free stuff and do the tours. Best of both worlds. :)

i’m gonna be nekkid and standing by my window on cal day at my dorm. come visit…if you dare. ;)

Don’t forget to walk past the frats to witness the enormous parties that will be held on Cal Day. That is, assuming your eyesight still functions after spotting Batman17 in his window.

Lol ><

ROFLMAO.

I’m glad I got the tour. LOLOL. That would be too much for my already blind (exaggerating of course, but I’m pretty much there. x__x) eyes.

Have fun!
