I might transfer. Help me find a place I would be happy at.

TL;DR - I want: Decently selective school in the north east (preferably new england) with a big theatre and a big music program BUT one that still has almost exclusively small class sizes and a friendly close knit atmosphere. Does this place exist?

I currently go to St. Mary's College of Maryland and I am extremely unhappy. I live in New England and might be more happy somewhere closer to home.

I am a psych major and I want to do social work, and the things I am missing is a) a big music program and b) a big theatre program. My high school theatre and music programs were bigger and better and that just seems crazy to take the two things I love and downgrade instead of upgrade. I would like a marching band/pep band option, but it isn't 1000% required.

The high school I went to was larger than the college I am at (about 3500 kids vs 2000 kids), but I love my small class sizes (biggest is about 30 kids, smallest is 10) and I love the cozy nature of everything -- everyone says hi to each other and notices each other, but I've found that there seems to be little camaraderie in clubs and such, which is where I hoped to find my camaraderie.

I am only a first semester freshman and I am going to wait out the year but I want to figure out my options just in case I need to transfer.

I am getting As and Bs and I am in an honors program here, so I'm thinking I could possibly get into a better school than I go in before. Example: Brandeis was mightily appealing to me, but I was waitlisted.

I want a school in or near New England, I want a school with a big theatre, I want a school with a wind ensemble, but I want to keep small class sizes and cozy tightly knit feelings.

I honestly have no idea what to do. I am unhappy here but I am attached despite how many things I dislike. I hope to find a school that makes leaving here something I want to do. I'm really hoping I feel comfortable and happy by spring. I think it is even possible I could get through my sophomore year and then transfer for my junior year. I'm not sure.

For reference, I have leadership positions both in high school and college. SAT best scores were: 730 reading, 610 math, 700 writing. I had a weighted 4.0 in high school, and my final grades here are very up in the air, but I have received no singular grade lower than an 80, so it will average out to having an A or a B in all of my courses.

anyone? :(

Perhaps the music majors forum here on CC could guide you to NE schools with good drama programs (even though it is not your major)?
