I’m a high school student attending a cc. I’m only taking one class once a week. I missed my first class, due to late registration. Two days after that I was diagnosed with pneumonia. I contacted my my professor 5 days before hand that I had pneumonia so I wouldn’t be able to attend to the second class (Sept. 26) and that I will be unable to make it to the third class due to SAT testing (Oct. 3). In this email I asked if we were able to make a schedule to discuss missing homework. As I response my professor told me, “You would have missed 3 chapters by October 3rd and two quizzes. We are doing a lab on October 10th. Good luck on the SAT.” My Professor posts the classe notes on the student portal every week, I asked if it was possible to pick up the missing work and reschedule the missing quizzes in the previous email. I looked over the syllabus for the class and it states that, “the student is responsible to pick up any missed work and reschedule any missed quizzes.” and to “email him to set up a date.”. Sunday I get an email from my dean stating that my professor said that I did not contact him in any way and that he marked me as a ‘no show’. I told my dean that I did contact my professor and that I do have an excused absent. Then my dean told me to email my professor back since that it counts as an excused absence. Any ideas or advice as of what I should put in the email?
Did you contact by email the first time? If so write to him explaining your situation and remind him that you did contact him in a timely fashion by including t he first email response as a reminder.
Email is obviously not working well. My suggestion would be to print out your previous email correspondence and meet with him during his office hours. And be sure to study really hard so you do well on the quizzes. It’s not an auspicious beginning.
