I need a laptop!!!

I will be a freshman in the fall && am currently searching for a laptop. What is a good brand/ model, etc to use for college? I have never owned a laptop so I'm completely clueless. Any advice would help! Thanks! :)

macbook pro. you’re welcome

^second. I love mine more than most things. You can get by with a cheaper one though.

yeah, agree, MacBook Pro. I have one that I bought for college this fall too- love it! Depending on your major though…some majors people say should be a PC, but most often Mac is great.

Get a MacBook pro…
The old myth of macs being more expensive is a LIE, in fact macs are cheaper to own… just google " total cost of ownership of a mac" or something along those lines…

How does that work out? The cheapest mac is ~$1000. You can a good PC for half that.

IMO, the only reason people buy macbooks is to be “hip” and “trendy”.

Some people like Macs. I can’t stand them personally.

Generally, PCs are cheaper than Macs. If you’re on a tight budget, go with a PC. Also, go to your college’s website- often they have a computer store that you can buy laptops cheaper through (rather than going through Bestbuy or the computer company). Are you looking for a full laptop or just a small netbook or something?

What’s your budget? I’d say go with a MacBook if your willing to shell out about $1000 or more. The entry level MacBook starts at $1000 and it’s a great computer. I personally love Macs, I currently own an iMac and I plan on getting a MacBook Pro when I start college. I used to own a few PCs before and I’ve concluded that Macs are the way to go. They perform well, they’re built strong and they a last long time, making them totally worth the price they cost. Another advantage of owning a Mac is that you can install a copy of Windows on it to have access to both operating systems. I run OSX Snow Leopard and Windows 7 on my computer to handle any task. I forgot to mention, since you are going to be a college student, Apple offers a deal where you can save almost $200 on your purchase so definitely check that out. If you don’t plan on buying a Mac, I’d say go with a Dell or an HP. I’ve owned a computer by both brands and can say that they are very good brands overall. Many of their laptops start around $400 at the lowest. Hope I could help. Good Luck!

One more thing. People usually buy a certain computer to do certain things such as photo editing, gaming, music producing, etc. If you buy a PC you usually have to worry about specs (RAM, hard drive, graphics card) depending on what you will you use the laptop for. If you buy Mac it will be able to handle just about any program or type of usage you throw at it. If you have any additional questions about this issue, feel free to send me a message at any time.

Well i don’t really know what I’m lookimg for, as long as a full notebook or whatever. && my budget is about $400-500, because im buying everything for college on my own & i don’t really have that much money to spare. I don’t want to get a fancy computer right now, just one to hold me over until i get enough money to upgrade. & I’m majoring in business admin w/a concentration in accounting if that matters

For right now, I’d check out a Dell or an HP as I mentioned before. I intend to major in business too!

Ohh ok. Is buying a refurbished one a good idea? Or no. I don’t want to have any built in viruses or bugs ( i don’t know how refurbished items are handled) but i also don’t want to buy a BRAND NEW one if i don’t have to.

It’d be better to buy a new system, because refurbished models usually aren’t coverable by a warranty. As a far as I know that’s the only disadvantage of going that route.
I’ve never owned a refurbished computer before so I can’t give too much input on this.

Macbook air. Refresh in a week.

Never live in the past but always learn from it.

I wish Apple would design the MacBook Pro with a Mini Display Port-In to connect a console such as an Xbox or PS3.

If your about to buy a Macfail pro, instead buy an Asus or Toshiba.

I have a Toshiba Satellite, and it’s been nothing but great!

I have an HP, it’s decent but I wouldn’t buy it if it didn’t come from my campus IT department with free tech support.

My sister has a ThinkPad from lenovo. She says it’s a brick and she’s never had trouble with it. Does anyone else have experience with those?

Someone dropped my MacBook Pro and the hinges started to fall off. I took it to the Apple store and they said it was an extremely rare problem but one that had been reported a few times on the older model, so I had a $500 repair done for free in about half an hour. It took a week for a virus to be removed from my sister’s PC. For some people, customer service is very important. Apple’s protection plan also covers pretty much everything.

However, PCs are just as good and much more affordable: Toshiba Satellite, Sony Vaio, Asus, etc.

^ My HP had a hinge break and they fixed it no problem. I’ve also never had virus issues. Really- it’s not hard to keep your computer virus free.
