<p>Ok, so my parents are all about prestige and imo very "show offy".... they want my college choices to reflect that. They want me to apply to those schools that when people hear the name they are immediatly impressed. Yes, I agree the name of a school can be powerful, but its not everything. Problem is I can't get into the "name" schools such as Harvard Princeton Yale Notre Dame and any ivy league school for that matter.....
So, can you guys come on with a few schools that are less competitive, but still have a great legacy and prestige. I dont plan on making my college decision based on the name, but at the same time i do want to make my parents happy.
Just so you have an idea of what schools I can get into, here are some brief stats</p>
<p>1950 SATs
4.0 weighted GPA ( thats average according to my parents )
5 Varsity Letters
Tought course load 6 AP 6 Honor by graduation</p>
<p>What is your Math/Verbal of your SATs. I think you need to set your parents straight, it is not them attending college, it is you. You'll put yourself through 4 years of hell if you go to a school to please them. What schools do you want to look at?
Off the top of my head, some more competitive schools that you could probably have a shot at are: Boston College, NYU, Villanova, Vanderbilt, Wake Forest, Michigan, Tufts, UCLA or UCB (if in-state), UNC-CH (if in-state), Brandeis, Bucknell, Lehigh, Lafayette, etc.</p>
<p>Goblue:
(1) it will be your unweighted GPA that will be relevant to colleges, not the weighted one.
(2) The "name" schools you mentioned have a gazillion or so applicants with stats that are at the top of possibilities. If there is something very unusual about you that would attract attention of an admissions committee (a "hook") then it would be worth applying to one or more of them. Otherwise, you would best be served - and your parents also - by becoming more realistic about where you apply - which you are already doing (but by the way, you should learn to proof what you write.) So, for example, if "name" is important, you might look at schools that are considered prestigious in the area where you live - for example, Vanderbilt or Davidson if you live in the south.
(3) you have not mentioned what you are considering majoring in, which we all would need in order to make suggestions.
So let's hear some more from you.</p>
<p>Sorry to be blunt, but this is just a dumb way to pick out a college. You haven't even said what you're interested in majoring in, or what kind of school you're interested in (size, location, etc).</p>
<p>"So, can you guys come on with a few schools that are less competitive, but still have a great legacy and prestige. I dont plan on making my college decision based on the name, but at the same time i do want to make my parents happy"
That's ridiculous!!!
Choose a school that YOU like!!I'm sure that are plenty schools that YOU like that are also prestigious.
Make a list of schools YOU like and tell you parents to make one they like. Then compare both and see if there is any in common on both list.AND AGAIN DO NOT CHOOSE ONLY BASED ON YOUR PARENTS OPINION!!!
Good luck!!</p>
