I need a LOT of help/guidance.. PLEASE help.

Okay guys, basically my life dream is to live in NYC with a decent career making(bringing home.. not general salary) atleast 35-37k a year.

Let me elaborate on my situation: I'm a Senior in High School, I currently live in Philadelphia, and I constantly travel to NYC(Chinatown Busses!). I've been travelling there for a while now, and the past few days I've been really depressed because I feel like I won't be able to get there next year.

Quite honestly, I will do ANYTHING.. literally ANYTHING it takes to be able to start college, trade school, whatever it may be in NYC. I'm just a guy with a dream..

And I know it MUST be possible because people are coming from all around the world.. heck.. immigrants established the city! So I ask you guys to please help me figure something out.

And by the way, I'm not an idiot or anything; I really have a major passion for the city.. It's become the most important thing in my life besides God. If I can live my dream, I'll be the happiest person in the world.

So I ask you guys to help guide me in a direction to be able to achieve this goal.. affordably.

Remember: I have no interest in staying here. You would NOT believe how depressing my life at home is.. if anything, it further motivates me to finally get out of here.

In high school, my grades have been variable. In Math subjects, they've ranged from 70-74, in Science, 80-90, in History, 80-90, in English, 75-85, and I excel in my Spanish Classes.

If you guys could help me figure something out, that would be wonderful.

Thankyou so so much; I really appreciate it!

Check out City College of NY: [The City College of New York :: CCNY Home](http://www1.ccny.cuny.edu/)

It has housing on W. 130th St. called The Towers: [The Towers | Capstone Company Campus](http://www.ccnytowers.com/)

Thanks; I’m going to check it out right now. I appreciate it.

Do you mean Manhattan? Or would you commute from the boroughs? I might be totally off base, but I think it would be very hard to survive on a take home of 35-37k a year in Manhattan (and I am talking as someone with outdated info- 12 years ago- who lived in subsidized housing and am pretty much a homebody and frugal). But what do I know? Run the numbers- rent, utilities, transit, food- and see what you come up with. If it’s your dream, its worth doing your homework for.

Most real, lifetime dreams take awhile to happen. Successful people strategize and know how to selectively delay gratification to get to their goals which last the rest of their life.

IMHO, you would be better off not focusing on fulfilling your dream next year but instead, fulfilling it down the road for a lifetime, by getting the training you need- anywhere affordable!- to be able to live the life you want to live in NYC.

Most real dreams are worth working and waiting for.

If you guys find other options as well that would be cool, because if one thing falls through I want to have some backups.

Thanks!

Also, I’m looking for something easier to get into because my grades were what they were because I idiotically slacked off during High School, so if there’s anything… let me know.

And also… No, I don’t really have an interest in living in Manhattan; I really love Queens and the Bronx. Brooklyn is pretty nice as well.

I’ve literally been searching for hours; anyone know anything else?

Are you married to the idea of living in the city or just near it? Because there are schools in Northern New Jersey which are a short train ride away from NYC. St. Peter’s and Seton Hall come to mind.

Remember: I have no interest in staying here. You would NOT believe how depressing my life at home is… if anything, it further motivates me to finally get out of here.

In your other thread, you mention that you intend to borrow $50k to pay for a NY community college to get an education to be a paralegal…

*it should cost about 24k altogether for Out of State tuition, and about $28,800 to live there, so altogether about $52,800 to do this. I really want to go with a Private loan. However, I have no credit history BUT I’ll have a family member with really good credit cosign with me. Should I get the Private loan?

A query: I’m completely deaf in my right ear, my parents make probably 60-70k a year altogether, and my father is originally from Iran, but I was born here(I speak no Farsi or anything… 100% American). I keep hearing I can get a free ride through community college due to the deafness… do I?

I think you’re overlooking a major point. You find living in your household depressing. The answer doesn’t have to be going into major debt going OOS to school. You can live away from home, and borrow MUCH less by going to a state school somewhere in your state…but not living at home.

Don’t ruin your adulthood by getting yourself deep in debt. Get away from home, but go to school in your own state for much less money.

Not right away; I wouldn’t mind doing NJ or even anywhere in NY State in general; as long as it’s affordable. I’m most likely not going to move to NYC for college; I really want to go to college and then move there. I really want to go to school in Jersey or New York State though, if possible.

And trust me Mom2collegekids… Your advice in the other thread really helped and that’s how I adopted the plan I just stated. I just need to find and apply to schools now. It’s relatively hard to find any though.
