I took the May 09 SAT and got 520CR, 480M, 540W (7 on the essay).
I'm very aware that I need to improve my scores :(. I know I can do much better.
It was my first time taking it.

I'm really interested in going to TCNJ. I have a 4.4 GPA.

So, I was wondering if there was any way I could possibly increase my score 300 or even 400 points?
My math score was horrible. I want to take the SAT again in October and I'm going to take a Kaplan course, I think.
Any extra advice on increasing my lowsy score?

lol some kid from my school got in with like an 1800, but he had ECs. its possible…are you in honors classes? is the 4.4 on a 5 scale? or is a 4.0 an A

Yes, I’m in honors classes and I’m taking AP classes next year. I just don’t think I’m the best test-taker – it’s mostly my nerves. Haha. And yeah it’s out of 5. That GPA is from sophomore year. I have no idea what my GPA is for this year since I’m not even done yet.

GreenTea, if you are a bad test taker, how do you have a 4.4? Don’t you take tests at school?

There’s a difference between taking a test for something you’ve been recently working on and something that may come up randomly from any period of your high school career. Please try and at the very least help this guy out if you are planning on replying instead of just making a wise-ass remark.

as always, practice tests from the blue book are always advised. and i can testify to their effectiveness: 700 point increase here. The change was from a PSAT score to an SAT one, mind you, but PSAT’s are kinda supposed to be SAT score indicators. Good luck!

The average score for those accepted this year was 1302 on the 2 parts, according to an admission counselor’s interview in a NJ newspaper article a few weeks back. You got a 1000. I think the 25 percentile is around 1200, maybe more. So, I think you need to pick up your scores about 200 points to have a shot. Right now, its got to be a big reach. My son would love to go, but scored a 1230 on the two parts and even with 4AP and 6 honor classes when he graduates (GPA about 3.6 compared to your 4.4), I’d say its still a reach for him unless he gets to perhaps 1300. Good luck and hopefully your scores will pick up.
Side note…during a campus tour not too long ago, an admissions counselor noted that he received a transcript from a kid with a 6.1 GPA…however it was on a 10 scale!!!
