I NEED A SAFETY- help me find one?

It has been 30 years since I worked in the SUNY system, but how about ESF that is adjacent to Syracuse. I do not know if what it offers is of any interest to you, but it is a small school in a city. You might also look at some of the two-year colleges in NY that have housing. The beauty of the SUNY system is that with a two-year degree, you are guaranteed admission to a four-year school as a junior. You may be more likely to get a little more $$$ from your home state.

What is your EFC? Refer to my post #5… Have one of your parents run the EFC calculator on the College Board website…

I remember the EFC to be around $200

Unfortunately many SUNYs are located in out of the way locations and OP does not want rural.
Potsdam , Brockport, New Paltz, Cortland, Oneonta, Cobleskill, etc.
Geneseo and Binghamton are highly competitive for admission. Stony Brook may not meet the OP’s wish list either.

I’m able to compromise- honestly, if the school is big enough I probably won’t even notice no city. But is it possible to get good internships in rural areas is the question.

agreatperhaps, consider Alfred University (NY) established in 1836.

Alfred University has about 2300 undergrads, Engineering, Liberal Arts, Art & Design, and Business students all interact with each other. There is no Greek Life, on campus housing is guaranteed for all 4 years, off campus housing is available for upper classmen-it is very affordable. My child is studying to be a teacher and has engineering friends, art & design friends, business friends. Division III athletics, small classes, merit aid, need-based aid, many clubs and organizations to get involved with. My child has gone to concerts in Ithaca, Syracuse, Rochester, done hiking in NY & PA locations, visited Corning Glass Museum and so on. AU publishes a monthly booklet for the students with all the on campus activities. All students may own cars, there are no restrictions on car ownership, of course, due to its location.

At peak break times shuttles go to Rochester Airport.
At peak break times buses go to NYC from Alfred.

We have found Alfred University to meet a high percentage of our need.
Also AU offers Alumni Loans, Alumni donate money, it is loaned to students and students receive very lenient pay back terms. Alumni loans are available in addition to the regular government loans, Stafford, etc…With TAP and possibly Pell, Alfred might be affordable for you and your family. I urge you to visit Alfred University and check it out.
