i need a truthful answer about psats/colleges

so i know all this, oh psats dont matter because colleges don't see them and as long as you do well on sat's you're fine, but seriously, i feel like they do matter. and i mean A LOT at selective institutions like the ivies and others.

what i want to know is exactly how much do they matter? i'm not the perfect student. and even if i get 2400 (which is unlikely) on my sat's, when i apply to top tier schools, will they be thinking (as my bleh score 210 on psats will not get me anywhere except commended) oh... why is this student just commended? maybe she just super studied for sat's and got a 2400 by accident and she isnt really smart enough for our school. do colleges think like that?

i just really need a truthful answer. no trying to make it seem less harsh. =)

thanks!!!!

i got a 159 in psat junior yr, why am i not worried? 210 is good already, tho its only commended in some large states such as NJ or CA. but its still good. not everyone has that u know
-PSATS DONT MATTER-
case closed.

PSATs = Practice SATs. You can't be harmed by them, but if you do good and get a commendation it'll only help you. They won't think "Oh, they only has a commendation? They're clearly not good enough." Remember, about 50,000 of the 1.5 million people get recommended for a commendation, then 2/3 of those people get a a commendation, so your still up there.
