I need advice, can you spare me some? Penn vs Cornell

I am currently a Freshman at Cornell. The semester ends in about a week, so I know almost beyond the shadow of a doubt that I'll have a 4.0 GPA - perhaps a 3.8 if I screw up philosophy. In other words, I would easily be able to transfer to Penn. And believe you fellows me, I have a great reason, so that is not an issue.
The question is: do I really want to do this? Penn has a fantastic neuroscience major, something that will likely become my major (Cornell only has neurobio, I assure you that this is very different). But in terms of social scene, etc, is it truly worth it to lose my entire network of friends and be forced to rebuild? I'm not sure it's worth it, especially if grad schools won't be that much more inclined to accept me from Penn rather than Cornell.

if you come here the quality of food is worse =p

but the weather is better…

In your case, I would at least put in the transfer app. That gives you some more time to make the decision.

If you don’t have any concrete reasons to transfer (if you’re happy at Cornell, and doing well) then I don’t think you should. Transferring is a huge transition, and the environments are pretty different. Philly is definitely a different place than Ithaca.

If grad school is your goal, and you’re that interested in neuroscience instead of neurobiology, then spend some time talking to the faculty. As a freshman, you may feel intimidated, but you shouldn’t be. Get to know the faculty in the dept, and get their opinion - they’ll be honest. Talk to some faculty in the department here at Penn. Both depts. are much better places to get information than CC.
