I need advice for "this" :)

Hey all,
I am an Indian student doing his last year mechanical engineering bachelors at Indian Institute of Technology. I am looking forward to apply for masters in a US college. But i have a few doubts mostly with my grades.

1) My SGPA from 1st to 6th semester is steadily decreasing. 9 -> 8.3-> 8.2 ->7.9-> 7.8 -> 7.1. But my CGPA is above 8.

2) I was suffering from an illness in my 6th semester where i got 7.1. I technically missed almost all the class tests, 3 months attendance, and had a shyt load of work in the last week where i wrote the midsem and endsem together. Hence the exponentially low grade in the 6th semester.

I want to mention this reason in my SOP in a non-sulking, calm and subtle way. Any ideas ?

Cheers
Adam

Get your professor or teacher, who is writing your recommendation, to mention this. It will sound sulky unfortunately if you write it. But coming from your teachers, who can put a positive spin on it ala look how well he’s doing despite all the shyt he had to go through, will actually add to your strengths. After all, your achievements are even more impressive if you’ve suffered for them :)

Btw, GPA of 9 at IIT? That’s insane! and probably unsustainable :wink: No worries though 7 is still I think pretty good. Good Luck!
