All right, I'm a long-time lurker and a first-time poster here and I desperately need some advice. Most of my EC's revolve around creative writing (founder of Creative Writing and Literary Club, founder of Literary Journal, etc.) and I was browsing around last night for contests to submit to. I found that the deadline for the Princeton poetry contest was yesterday and by that time, it was too late to submit (the post office is closed at 11 pm, go figure). Would it be smart to get together a submission today and Fed-Ex to the contest, or would they not even consider my submission (which would put me out of sending pieces to journals)? Essentially, I'm asking if my submission would be DQ'd because it would be postmarked a day after the deadline. Advice?

It's doubtful anyone can answer your question definitively, but what have you got to lose (besides the cost of mailing)? My guess is that if it gets there Monday they probably will consider it because they will still be getting snail mail entries all week.

Since you must be a junior, you should definitely consider entering the NFAA Youngarts program next year (it's open to seniors). Also the Scholastic Art and Writing Awards. They are both great programs.
