Well this is my situation: I was admitted to berkeley's college of engineering under the major engineering undecided for the fall 2005. However, I defered my admission to the spring 2006. Now I don't know whether I want to go to cal anymore. I am thinking about going to a community college and then transfering to a university. My ultimate goal is to become a doctor. The only problem is my mom who thinks that having gone to a community college looks really bad. Does it really look bad if you go to a community college and then transfer to a UC. Does this lessen the probability of getting into medical school. I am confused seriously.

I don't know if it would. You should post this on the pre-med topic thread, too, btw. Here's what I would think. If you do really well at cc, transfer to a four year, and do really well there, you won't have a problem getting into medical school (well, given you have a few decent letters of rec and a decent MCAT score). It might be easier to get high grades at a CC, but it might be harder because you may feel unmotivated, unchallenged, you may slack off, ect. If you go to a cc, you risk not being admitted to a better school than Cal, but that may also work to your advantage. To med schools, i think it's better to be a top student at any four year than a fairly high or merely above average student at Berkeley. There's a lot of variables, many of which cannot be predicted, that are unknown.

thank you for the response
